Inspired by real events, SCOOP is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earthshattering interview -- Prince Andrew's infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. From the tension of producer Sam McAlister's high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way to Emily Maitlis' jaw-dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, SCOOP takes us inside the story, with the women who would stop at nothing to get it. To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.

Critics Consensus

Scoop wrings riveting drama out of its real-life story, even if the actual interview footage remains an arguably superior watch.

Robert Levin Newsday The depiction of the hard, gritty work of journalism is believable, but it doesn't make for especially engaging drama. Rated: 2.5/4 May 3, 2024 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's very crisp and effective... You obviously know where it's going, but it's effective for what it does. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Scoop, which declares it a job-well-done simply to see a man stripped of honorary titles without ever having to defend himself in a criminal court, fails to make the argument for why any of this mattered beyond making good TV. Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews This fact-based biopic clearly shows how easily the rich and powerful can prey on the weak. Rated: B Dec 30, 2024 Full Review Jack Martin Film Feeder Despite the occasional genuine thrill, though, it’s fairly standard stuff that ultimately doesn’t offer a whole lot more insight into the incident that caught the world off-guard. Rated: 3/5 Aug 5, 2024 Full Review Abe Friedtanzer Cinema Daily US What Scoop doesn’t quite do is establish itself as a completely independent product that can survive the test of time without any context. Epstein’s name is well-known at the moment but there isn’t all that much explanation about who he is. Rated: B Jul 27, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Ian W Thought the Netflix series was a little better. Billie Piper looked a bit out of her depth. And how many BBC investigative reporters for Newsnight live in council flats and take the bus? Well done, just about worth a watch. But I guess we all know the story... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review SkyRo P "Scoop," the 2024 film featuring Gillian Anderson, Billie Piper, and Rufus Sewell, offers a gripping portrayal of the infamous interview with Prince Andrew that sent shockwaves through British society. Directed with a keen eye, the performances are commendable and effectively convey the weight of the subject matter. The film excels in many areas, but it is heavily dialogue-driven—no surprise considering it’s centered around an interview. However, the sheer volume of dialogue can at times overwhelm the narrative, making it challenging to stay engaged and leaving the audience yearning for a moment to catch their breath. While I believe it's a well-crafted film, there's an abundance of content that feels overly packed, which detracts from the overall experience. I hope that in 2025, filmmakers will take a different approach, as the current trend of dialogue-heavy narratives can feel monotonous. It seems we've strayed from the essence of storytelling, whether it be an emotional drama or an action-packed thriller, and instead find ourselves mired in films that lean too much into lengthy conversations. I wouldn't classify "Scoop" as boring, but it fulfills its purpose effectively, leaving you ready to move on to something else once it concludes. I appreciated the film during my first viewing, but I doubt I would revisit it; I fear a second watch would induce drowsiness, as the impact of the first experience would likely fade away. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Neil W Great cast, great script, great acting, great acting. What could go wrong? The strong, independent, empowered girl boss narrative. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/02/25 Full Review Dane B. M I liked it a great deal. The inner workings of media and the Palace. Yes, I will recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Daniel B I'm not really sure why we're glorifying journalists just for doing their jobs, also not really sure why we should care so much just because it's about royalty. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Jessica C I enjoyed this film ,its well acted and I found it interesting to see the work that goes into securing these types of interviews.
