      Critics Consensus

Scoop wrings riveting drama out of its real-life story, even if the actual interview footage remains an arguably superior watch.

David F Great production values and a nice story about journalists out to get an interview which lands with a thud. A nice behind-the-scenes take on reporters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Tina K The cast and subject drew me to this initially. But tbh, there is no depth to any of it. It skims the characterisation - tension? Inside scoop? Nah, nothing. It teased and hunted at bigger drama but never actually filmed it. Sam's hard work and reliance on her mum to look after her son built up then just dissipated. This became the pattern thought. Absolutely no subtlety at all. I'm a big fan of all three female leads but they were TOTALLY wasted in this film. Don't bother. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Anisa A I found my attention drifting, and while I liked the cast, I was confused at the end why people thought this was riveting or had any suspense. It was the most mild mannered suspense I've ever seen, which I chalked up to being aimed at British audiences, just to give the movie some grace. It felt like a very long episode of a tv show. I was confused as to where I was so supposed to be 'leaning in' to see what happens. It was like trying a dessert people rave about, only to find it was just banana bread with a fancy name. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Nik L Interesting background to something we all watched, I say and watched this all the way through without distraction, still can’t believe he’s still wandering about! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Sam A Exciting and tense. Grabbed me immediately. The cast did an excellent job of creating the nervous energy throughout of the excitement of a huge interview. Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's very crisp and effective... You obviously know where it's going, but it's effective for what it does. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Scoop, which declares it a job-well-done simply to see a man stripped of honorary titles without ever having to defend himself in a criminal court, fails to make the argument for why any of this mattered beyond making good TV. Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Sarah Ditum Times (UK) Scoop is agnostic about what Andrew did, but it sure makes him look as pathetic as hell. Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Frank Swietek One Guy's Opinion One must doubt whether treating this story as a triumph of journalistic tenacity really does it justice...while “Scoop” is interesting enough, especially for royal watchers, its take on what’s actually a tragic story seems awfully skewed. Rated: C+ Apr 24, 2024 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier This should have been a thrilling backstage look at one of the biggest stories in a decade. It's not. Flattening out this tale was close to criminal because it's not just the story that was squandered but a cast of phenomenal actors. Apr 19, 2024 Full Review Ernesto Diezmartinez Letras Libres Based on the true story of an explosive interview with Prince Andrew of England, "Scoop" is a good film about a group of journalists who question and expose a powerful man.
