What to Know

Critics Consensus

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse fails to live up to its intriguingly wacky title, instead delivering yet another zombie comedy-thriller with a tired T&A twist.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com I had trouble believing Landon and company were going to be able to pull this type of horror-comedy hybrid off. But they do, more or less, the strengths of the performances and the number of solid laughs winning me over. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 22, 2016 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Demerit badges all round. Rated: 2/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Putrefied audiences may get a few yucks from the crass schoolboy blend of tits and offal, but connoisseurs will opt for the much funnier Cockneys vs Zombies. Rated: 2/5 Nov 8, 2015 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse doesn’t try to do anything exceptional, but it might have been more successful if Zombieland, which came out six years earlier, hadn’t attempted a lot of the same things, and done them better. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review This critic is tired of seeing movies in which teenage boys behave awfully for two acts, only to be redeemed in the last few moments by some imbalanced act of kindness. Rated: 1.5/4 May 3, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse I'm not sure that Lord Baden-Powell would approve of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse but for the right audience it should be a good Halloween matinee. Matthew B I seen this cringeworthy bore-fest back when it came out and found it to be extremely mediocre, even as a massively biased zombie nerd. Almost ten years later, after seeing this movie plastered on every single Reddit "must watch zombie movies" discussion as if it were some underrated hidden gem... I decided to give it another shot. I wanted to enjoy this movie so bad but ended up even more disappointed than I was the first time around. This is another generic late night dude-bro comedy from 2015, just with a zombie coat of paint. The entire driving force of the main plot is our main protagonist(s) (aside from survival) trying to get the hot girl, which I'm sure you've seen in any other cheap lazy Netflix comedy. The scene where our protagonists are stuck in a jail cell surrounded by infected is just about the only entertaining part of this mess. It takes FOREVER for this movie to get started... which is fine if done right, look at the 2004 Dawn of the Dead reboot and the extremely uncomfortable atmosphere it builds in the beginning. This movie however has little to no atmosphere and chooses instead to indulge in cheap thrills like sneaking alcohol as a teenager, hot chicks, and yes... boobs. lots of boobs. Which I'm a fan of myself, but not if they're the only thing going on in your HOUR AND A HALF movie. Seems to me this was made for preteens with restricted internet access who have to resort to creative ways to see breasts... and if that's the case, you can do much better than this. Watch Shaun of the Dead or the first Zombieland instead if you want to see how a zombie-comedy is done correctly. One of the BEST horror comedies I have ever seen. As a sh*tty horror movie connoisseur, I know bad horror, and this isn't it. I laughed my t*ts off!
