Critics Consensus

Despite some surprising twists, Scream 3 sees the franchise falling back on the same old horror formulas and cliches it once hacked and slashed with postmodern abandon.

Sezín Koehler Bitch Media Actually a scathing indictment of how women are treated behind-the-scenes in Hollywood. Mar 5, 2021 Full Review Jack Mathews New York Daily News The series is already so dense with internal references and exposition that it's on the verge of becoming more of a trivia game than a movie series. Still, for the initiated, the third time's a charm. For everyone else, it's just a scream. Rated: 3/4 Jun 26, 2019 Full Review Richard Schickel TIME Magazine [The cast] is good. And so are director Wes Craven's inventive stagings of these set-tos. Not so good is the absence of hip cross-references to the classic horror tropes. Jun 25, 2019 Full Review Stephanie Archer Film Inquiry Entertaining and an easy watch, Scream 3 promises to be more than expected. Dec 17, 2021 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation An underrated, post-modern deconstruction. Rowan C I think this movie is on par with the second one. Sydney is yet again dragged back into another killing investigation, this time it being her long lost brother. At the end, it really ties everyones connections together and Roman explains how the killing of Sydneys mother happened. I do think that it is worst than the first one, but I do think that there were good things to put it right next to the second one. I liked the killer better in Scream 3 than I did in Scream 2 because it had better lore and it was more interesting. I predicted that the detective was the killer, and I am glad that I was wrong. Overall, definitely not better than the first but I still enjoyed watching the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Julian S It’s not the finale you might expect, but it’s the funniest of the trilogy, full of sharp Hollywood satire. Parker Posey is a delight as the on-set Gale Weathers, and her scenes with Courteney Cox are pure gold. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Liza M Too hated on, I think that it tied perfectly back to the original and the killer reveal was good. This movie is SEVERLY underrated and the fact that it has a lower rating than Scream 6 HAUNTS me more than any horror movie ever could. Plus kudos to Roman Bridger for being the only solo Ghostface. The man is a legend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Audience Member What's your favorite scary movie? Not this one! Ghostface's magic voice changer is kind of stupid though in the context of this movie they get some pretty cool kills out of it. At least the movie is a decent sendoff for this first trilogy and I actully really like the ending shot even it's pretty simple. I don't vibe with them not having 2 killers, but I guess its ok, just like this movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Henry A I honestly don't REALLY see what's wrong with this movie, I like it, not as much as 1 and 2, it's still good, not the best thing I've seen, but I still appreciate it as a threequel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Deontae D I know some people don't like scream 3, But it's a ok film, I kinda like it, They toned the violence down in this installment, Some parts of it is goofy lol, I gotta say all scream openings is amazing, But won't never top the 1996 scream opening, That is a iconic opening, 3/5 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
