Critics Consensus

Despite some surprising twists, Scream 3 sees the franchise falling back on the same old horror formulas and cliches it once hacked and slashed with postmodern abandon.

Rated: 2/5 Sep 11, 2025 Full Review Brett Gallman Daily Grindhouse SCREAM 3’s flirtation with genuine subversion makes it one of the most interesting — and most frustrating — entries in the series. Considering the circumstances that influenced its production, it’s remarkable that it works at all. Oliver J Critics Consensus: Though it leans heavier on comedy and Hollywood satire than genuine scares, Scream 3 wraps up the original trilogy with enough wit, tension, and self-referential fun to keep fans satisfied. Review: Wes Craven’s Scream 3 trades the college campus for the movie studio, taking its meta-horror franchise straight into the heart of Hollywood — where the lines between fiction and reality blur more than ever. It’s a bold move that gives the film a slick, almost surreal edge, even if it sacrifices some of the visceral fear that defined the first two entries. Neve Campbell once again anchors the chaos as Sidney Prescott, now older, wiser, and more haunted than ever. Courteney Cox and David Arquette return with familiar charm, while Parker Posey steals scenes with a hilariously over-the-top performance that perfectly matches the film’s satirical tone. While Scream 3 suffers from a few tonal inconsistencies and a less shocking mystery than its predecessors, its Hollywood setting provides a clever backdrop for Craven’s commentary on fame, trauma, and the exploitative nature of storytelling itself. The scares may be fewer, but the film’s self-awareness remains sharp — and its finale offers. a fitting, if not flawless, conclusion to the trilogy. Verdict: “A slick, self-aware sequel that trades pure terror for Hollywood satire — and mostly gets away with it.” Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/25 Full Review Ry N. Stab 3 is in production while the events of Scream 3 unfold. I enjoy how this franchise does their foreshadowing, I thought this was pretty creative. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review love H. I mean it kinda sucked worse Ghostface reavel. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/12/25 Full Review Gerard M. The worst of the series in my opinion. It felt more like a sitcom in parts. There are barely any good unaliving scenes (it’s been like 20+ minutes since the last unaliving scene while typing this review). It’s just not scary. Feels contrived and try hard millennial stuff. Ghostfaces voice sounds like a parody. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Melissa L I personally found this better than Scream II. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/25 Full Review Carter T. Great movie. I don’t think anything will surpass movie one. The motive is still as unique as ever and the fact that there were this many defeats with only one Ghostface. I do feel like it is impossible for one Ghostface to do all the work. I think the Angelina Tyler theory makes sense, but still a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
