Rated: 2/5 Dec 2, 2010 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) With a cast that features great actors like Diane Lane, John Malkovich and Margo Martindale, you can’t really go wrong for a Kentucky Derby-themed movie like Secretariat. Kait L The movie was entertaining and inspirational! So no it is not a documentary nor an academy award winner, but engaging none the less and I suspect it has led to even more Secretariat fans. I have some vague memories of the tv announcements of his win back then and everyone was so excited, but now with social media and the ability to watch (and re-watch) movies about the event brings it more to life. The movie is well paced, with good dialogue and the acting was very good and authentic. Diane Lane is always great in any role. John Malkovich is such a treat. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Secretariat and we have seen it more than once! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Eye C I wish Disney could return and continue doing movies like this one. It’s very moving well made without preaching but with a nice message. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Samuel L 10/10 definitely would recommend Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Kirsta H Great storytelling! Lost a star for too many historical inaccuracies that could've remained accurate with a still-great story. Good use of live video! Family friendly. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Audience Member Over 10 years old Pretty much delivers exactly what you’d expect from a film of this caliber Lanes performance really shines next to this horse Based on actual facts too with no shortcomings about the greatest racing horse who ever lived Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Diana M Secretariat is the true life story of house wife and mother turn racehorse owner, Penny Chenery and her legendary race horse, Big Red. In 1969 Penny Chenery (Diane Lane} inherits her parents race horse farm, "Meadow Stables" and against her brother and husband's advice, to sell it off, she is determined to save and continue her father's horse racing legacy. "My father's legacy is not his money. My father's legacy is the will to win." - Penny Chenery Risking everything, Penny hires veteran trainer, Lucien Laurin, (John Malkovich) and challenges the male dominated sport of horse racing with a unlikely horse she named Big Red, but to the world, "Secretariat" Penny is so sure and confident in her Big Red horse, she guarantees that Secretariat will win the Triple Crown, something that no horse has accomplished in 25 years. Secretariat is about the fastest horse in the history of horse racing, but it is more about Penny Chenery's struggles, both in family and financially, and overcoming all of them... And her devotion and confidence in one horse, Secretariat. "I've run my race. You run yours" - Penny Chenery I am not a horse racing fan but I really enjoyed this movie. The story is well written and beautifully shot. I love seeing this whole world of horse racing and the awesome racing scenes. Diane Lane as Penny is absolutely brilliant and makes the whole story work. What a really entertaining and uplifting film.
