The tone is rich and sophisticated. Shadows of childhood tragedy and adult mis-steps fall across the drama. Sorrow is often in the air. This in no way sits oddly with a number of excellent jokes, including a doozy about Ikea.

How Nora and Agnes grew up and what it was like for them in their specific household is arguably the whole point of this narrative. The opening of the film is a beautiful montage that felt like something out of Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (2011)
