      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A lifeless divorce drama cosplaying as a horror film, Separation is a disjointed mess that fails to escape its formulaic trappings.

John The movie over all was good. But the pacing was off from the half way mark to the end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/30/21 Full Review james Want my money back. This movie was horrible. I had a hard time staying awake. The plot twist is horrible. It had creepy moments but you seen those in the trailer. The ending was stupid. Don't watch this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/21 Full Review Facebook U This movie was beyond horrible there was no story no plot this movie had nothing going for it I wish I can get my money back Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/21 Full Review Antonio Very slow movie and no payout in end Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/25/21 Full Review Tex First half? A building dread, sort of a Man makes monster, nature of monster to destroy creator vibe. The later half? Definitely more of a murder mystery vibe. Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com There are no believable characters, no rising tension, and no scares in this Insidious meets Kramer vs. Kramer. Rated: 0/4 Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Nick Schager Variety [A] dull and misogynistic affair that imagines multiple types of women as malevolent fiends who terrorize supposedly sympathetic men. Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Despite an imaginative setup, Separation can't divorce itself from a lack of scares, tension, and underbaked storytelling that prevents emotional resonance. Rated: 1.5/5 Apr 29, 2021 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture The characters are flat, the themes shallow, and the emotional catharsis is stilted in every scene. Rated: 4/10 Jun 5, 2022 Full Review Linda Cook OurQuadCities / WHBF-TV (Illinois) 'Separation' is a good movie ... to stay away from. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 8, 2021 Full Review Steven Warner In Review Online The only separation that exists here is the vast one between good and bad filmmaking, and Separation falls decidedly on the side of the latter.
