Matthew C I found this film thanks to the famous clip of the brilliant practical effect transformation of Nanny when she reveals herself to be the Octopus. I was hoping for a charming movie but was really disappointed. So many plot holes to the point where it was difficult to follow the story line. Often propped up by attempts at humor that didn't land and haunted house tropes á la Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein. The cliché ending really was the nail in the coffin for me. I've seen better work in high-schoolers film class projects. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Audience Member "What do you mean we? You! You got to change a tire!" Now this I like! A diverse group of strangers, including two police officers (doing a sort of proto Martin/Lewis or Hope/Crosby) converge on a lighthouse on a rainy night. A ginormous octopus uses its slithery tentacles to attack those in the tall building (to much comical effect) in this fast-talking murder mystery horror-comedy cheapie. Several old-dark-house tropes are used, but the addition of an early kaiju makes the plot entirely unique. Fun stuff! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Dated old dark house type mystery though still very effective in places and with one perfectly done transformation scene (filmed in a similar way to the Fredric March Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde). Cop out ending slightly dilutes the tension but overall not the dud that some would have you believe. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
