Phil Gallo Variety Shackleton is all Branagh, a pure delight to watch as he maintains his humanity in the face of terror and becomes the brave face of his 50-plus men. Mar 3, 2019 Full Review John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture It's an amazing story, wonderfully told. Audience Member A missed opportunity to tell a great story, with a legend actor. Film focuses on Shackleton way to much, and doesn't develop the other characters hardly at all. A pity, because there were guys like Thomas Crean on that expedition, who were legends almost as much as Shackleton. Its an understandable mistake - because Branagh is great in this, and is perfect match to play Shackleton. But the filmmakers lean on him too much. If it wasn't for him this would be a half-star The story doesn't dwell on the expedition itself, enough. It wastes a lot of time on before they leave Britain, and cutting back to Britain while they are in Antartica. Yet the entire time they spend on the boat in winter is told in a couple of minutes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The script has a few contradictory lines in it but make no mistake this is genius from beginning to end. Lets see it on the big screen asap. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring even by British standards. Not very accurate, although better than most. As always, Shackleton is presented as a great hero, despite the fact that he got these men into trouble in the first place and threatened to shoot his own men if they disobeyed him. I don't know how many times Branagh yells (not acts, yells) "I will not let these men die!" - but once is more than enough. Save your money. Buy a documentary instead, it couldn't possibly be as boring, and you'll learn something other than the fact that Brangah's acting career is over. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A long epic about a legendary story. Truly for history buffs and armchair adventurers, this may be a challenging viewing for the typical Hollywood audience. More of a PBS Masterpiece Theater feature, I would not recommend entertaining this as an adventure film. Very well acted, by a great actor playing the protagonist. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good story based closely on the real story of Shackleton's expedition. The mindset of these men in the face of terrific deprivation is illuminating and v much worth seeing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a fantastic epic adventure and an extremely well directed, acted, and cast motion picture. Very accurate historically. The scenery is incredible. Excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
