Audience Member V wity- and a play, within a play (like Hamlet)!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this film. It's similar to De Niro's 'What just Happened' but this one is better ! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Shades is a thriller about the making of a controversial movie - also called Shades, Mickey Rourke plays the film's director Paul S Sullivan trying to reign in his hothead young star Dylan Cole, who is getting a bit 'method' playing a real-life murderer Freddy Lebecq. Rourke plays it laid back and cool, in a droopy stetson, even carrying one of his dogs in one scene, he's taking no shit but leaving the histrionics to the badass actor Cole. As a film about film-making it's not Day for Night, but it's not too bad either. Mainly because of the way it unfolds. I didn't care much for Gallo's character until we found out more about his past. He was still an asshole, but then I understood why. Surprisingly poignant near the end. It doesn't really feel natural, which is a shame. Critics hated it, no one checked it out. And to think the producers were so glad they were able to get Mickey Rourke for their movie. It's really not that bad, just not very good either. Way too chaotic at times and constantly going into new directions. [/font] Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
