Audience Member Dilip Kumar was fantastic as expected But the real surprise was Amitabh Bachchan in this. Its probably one of his best performances. To perform alongside the great Dilip Saab and to go toe to toe with him, Bachchan Saab did an amazing job. Many people laugh at me when I say this but the movie Heat is heavily inspired by Shakti, especially when you see the ending. This is a very emotional and dramatic movie. All of the scenes with the 2 lead actors together are like gems to cherish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member What a sad movie. I really did like it, however, but crime movies that retain a sense of reality like you get from he 70's and early 80's are my jam. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I like all the 'angry man young films' of Amitabh Bachchan but if I had to choose a favorite it would actually be "Shakti". I think the pairing of Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan is the most powerful out of all the films. Their performances are excellent but also making them father and son adds an even more emotional weight to the film. In "Deewar", sure he was angry at his father but the father wasn't there in any scene so that conflict was missing. In "Trishul" Sanjeev Kumar's character doesn't even know that AB is his son until the end of the film. So, the dynamic in 'Shakti" is completely different. It also helped that there were really no other side characters in this film. In the other movies there's Shashi Kapoor and other characters, they don't distract from the central conflict but they do take away the tension for those couple of minutes. Here, however the tension is there in every scene. It really was a smart move to just keep AB and Dilip Kumar the central part of the film. It was as if all those other films were just building up to 'Shakti', it felt like a climax of some sort. What I also found interesting is that in all those films AB's character is tormented by memories and certain inanimate objects ((I dont think in Kala Pathhar there was anything of the sort. Maybe because this character actually ran away from home to escape his past and also because he blamed himself for everything while in the other films he put the blame on others) would remind him of those painful memories. In 'Zanjeer' it's the bracelet that the man who killed his parents wears, in "Deewar" it's the tatoo. In "Trishul" it's his mother's picture. We constantly see him standing in front of it. In 'Shakti' however there's no inanimate object but his own father constantly reminds him of the pain he experienced creating a much more powerful and confusing experience that the character goes through. One thing all the films share in common is that there's one event in childhood that changes the course for the character. It causes a string of terrible events that shapes the character into what he is for the rest of the film. All these films explore the psychology of this 'angry young man' in their own way but at the root of it there's a certain catalyst if you will that completely changes his world forever and how he operates in it. So, in some ways these films were more than 'masala' entertainers. They were fun to watch, had songs and had all the ingredients of a typical Bollywood film but they also had a main character that was REAL. He felt pain, love, loss...everything. One could identify with him and feel for him even root for him. Without these underlying factors the films wouldn't remain as powerful and important to AB's career as they are. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member all time classic of hindi movies! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie has the four heavyweights of the indian film industry. Amitabh Bacchan , Dilip Kumar , Rakhi and Samita Patel who r a school of acting in their own rights. Movies like this give Amitabh Bachan the rightful title of The BIG B but also witnesses the class act of the Great DILIP KUMAR. Each one of them have left a legacy behind them setting a standard for great acting in this movie and for the entire hindi cinema to teach it's new generation. It's a true indian classic. I love each and every song from this flick. Ramesh Sippy's finest work . I can see this movie again and again and every time i cry at the tragic end.
