Proudly, shamelessly, and gloriously brainless, Sharknado redefines "so bad it's good" for a new generation.

Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post It's bloody good fun. Nov 21, 2013 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times Oh sure, it's easy to pick holes in a story about a weather system that makes it possible for sharks to fly and take to the streets, but that's the whole point of movies like this: fabulous in-home commentary. Jul 26, 2013 Full Review Kaleem Aftab Independent (UK) What the film does have is some fantastically cheesy lines combined with some humorous social commentary. Jul 26, 2013 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Sharknado is the little Asylum B-movie that could and it's absolutely glorious! Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 5, 2024 Full Review Kevin Carr Fat Guys at the Movies Obviously ridiculous and stupid, it still manages to sometimes be a mind-blowing rollickingly good time. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 21, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Sharknado” is the epitome of “so bad it’s good”. Maybe not good enough to watch again and again, but plenty good enough to do what it sets out to do – entertain in its own offbeat cockamamie way. Ben W Cheesy and corny fun! Had a blast revisiting this. Really fun and hilarious! 😂 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review Stefan Ö Sharknado Wisdom, part 1 Recent results from experiments in quantum physics question the existence of an objective, shared reality. However, I don’t know of any way to incorporate subjective reality in a human life without being an unsympathetic know-it-all. Still, there is wisdom in realising that it is possible to affect one’s perception of whatever happens in life. So, even if it is sensible to think about reality as being objective, we should try to take into account that perceptions of this objective reality can be subjective and differ depending on the observer. This is the wisdom that I would argue is the underlying theme of Sharknado. The part that is familiar to most is how you can create a negative sentiment by how you are perceiving what is going on around you. In an early scene at the beach (once the camera has panned over some scantly dressed women) Sharknado uses this familiarity to ease us in to the theme. A person watching the movie might think the sea looks perfectly calm and still when the characters sit on their surfboards. However, the characters themselves perceive rising winds and mounting waves (i.e., subjective perceptions can influence how we experience a situation). Later, the movie brings us along to other situations in which we can deepen our understanding along the same lines of thinking. For example, what is, in one scene from the human perspective, shown to be a 20–30 cm deep puddle can in the next scene, from the sharks’ perspective, be depicted as the deep, open sea. Arguably, it would be just-choose-happiness moronic to translate this directly to a human life. But the sentiment holds some wisdom. And, reversed, even if the main characters are fleeing for their lives through pouring rain and fighting an imminent threat to everyone in the Los Angeles area as a whole, most people continue their lives as usual; sunbathing or commuting seemingly without any concerns or problems. This tells us that there is wisdom not only in choosing to experience positive emotions, but that it can also be beneficial to allow the negative experiences to affect you as well. Finally, and to safeguard against us becoming reductive you-create-your-own-reality morons, the movie shows us how to wisely apply these insights in interpersonal relationships. A friend or loved one gets violently devoured by a shark. A shark comes flying in through the window or bites your car. Or, your house (and only your house and no other house in the neighborhood) explode from mysteriously filling up with water. Any of this would make most people totally freak out. However, the characters of Sharknado display only stoic and understated reactions to all of it. I don’t know if there is really any wisdom in that in an by itself. However, for us as outside observers there is wisdom in realising that we cannot judge from the behaviour of another human being what that person has been through. Enough said. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Mark F A brilliantly stupid movie that had me laughing all the way through. Definitely needed this release from the absurdity of the real world! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Dauntless V Absolutely beautiful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Cynthia L This is the dumbest thing anybody could have ever created . They had to be doing drugs. Who ever heard of sharks flying thru the air. Dumbest A#@ Movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
