V.A. Musetto New York Post What a setup! What a let-down! Rated: 1/4 Nov 17, 2006 Full Review Laura Kern New York Times Named for ninjas equipped with superhuman capabilities, Ten Shimoyama's Shinobi is equal parts tragic love story and fantastical martial arts showcase. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 16, 2006 Full Review Shawn Levy Oregonian Shinobi may be nearly incoherent, but it plays like X-Men crossed with Romeo and Juliet, which is at least a little cool. And, as I say, it's an absolutely ravishing vision. Rated: B Feb 9, 2007 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Excellent and bitter sweet love, it has not gone mainstream , not that much popular but the making and story telling with the skill of cinematography during that time was well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Hauntingly beautiful scenes with a tragic ending. Loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Ninja Romeo & Juliet. Comparisons aside, I was actually entertained. Who doesn't like ninjas? The fantasy element was strong and cheesy, with super powered warriors doing battle. But that tranquil and poetic Japanese way of shooting scenes just makes up for it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Shinobi has a little bit Romeo & Juliet meets Naruto. When 2 ninja clans must meet in battle you know there's going to be some fun action sequences and if you like wirefu, you'll find plenty to enjoy here. Some of the ninja has amazing powers and are truly fun to watch. The problem with the film is too many of the ninja and their specific powers aren't explained or used enough. Some don't even fight before they die! And then there are others (some with less then cool powers) who are on screen far too much. Whether this all was a decision based on budget and ability or whether they just wanted to concentrate on certain ninja because it was in the source material, Shinobi fails to truly provide what a fan of this type of film expects. Quick kills are for no name regular fighters... not the best of the best. Outside of those particular let downs throughout the film, Shinobi plays very well and is lots of fun and even includes a message that should be thought of by all those in the world who are so dead set on fighting and wars. In the end... love is all that matters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Move over Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member "Ten Shimoyama's Shinobi is equal parts tragic love story and fantastical martial arts showcase." 2005 was a popular year for adaptations of The Kouga Ninja Scrolls. First Basilisk, then this. Beautiful scenes and good effects, but the emphasis on the tragic love story makes it more of a date movie. I prefer Basilisk, but for an abridged look at the story, this isn't bad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
