11/03/2008 Harsh and realistically squashed by Omarova. No,Schizo is not the common peasant on a small town nor the bully against authority. It's a sweet debut despite the psychological weariness and the social comment of poverty. See more 10/14/2008 (** 1/2): It is interesting but as a whole, I just don't think it works. A near-miss. We just saw the "4 months, etc." movie about the girl in Romania getting an abortion, so we're making a full tour of the grimness of life in those communist countries. But this is an interesting coming of age movie that is definitely worth watching. See more 12/27/2007 Is this the Kazakh version of Brother? Well, considering that Viktor Suhorukov plays a small role in it, and it is awash in surviving in a harsh environment where organized crime is the law, you could say so. But Schizo is much more low key than Brother. The violence is more sparce, the music a little less important, and a greater focus on the complexities of the characters. Each character is wonderfully vivid, but you are somehow always kept from getting to know them too well, which makes the film that more intriguing. With some great, gritty cinematography fully capturing the desolation of Kazakhstan, Schizo draws you into a world that you may have never known existed. See more 11/14/2007 Somewhat interesting story about a child that sets up fights for money. Didn't find it realistic but considering the budget and the place of origin(Kazakhstan) the movie does a good job of depicting an instable society based on power and money. See more Read all reviews
