As a piece "torn from the headlines" it can only scratch the surface of its subject, and all its mysteries are an extension of this (and therefore leave it unsatisfying), but Fanny Ardant is superbly directed by Ursula Meier, and this thus becomes a glimpse of what might have been with a great, as opposed to mediocre, story to tell.
