Shopgirl is precariously slight, but it has some intriguing moments, and Danes is luminous.

Zadie Smith Daily Telegraph (UK) Steve Martin's script sneers at the vanity of fake LA girls and their plastic surgery. He is in no position to sneer. Jan 17, 2018 Full Review Victoria Segal New Statesman For most women, finding a pair of black gloves on their doorstep would signal "Boston Strangler" rather than "man of my dreams!" and it is this sense of unintentional creepiness that asphyxiates Shopgirl. Petoria c My theory--this is Steve Martin's fifty something fantasy that he wrote between marriages. His blind spot is that he comes across as creepy. Story line is one star, but I gave an extra star so the review doesn't appear bitter. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Serge M I was excited to watch this movie because of Jason Schwartzman. However, this was the most boring, pointless film I've ever seen. Long, plotless shots with lifeless, cheesy music. Terrible dialogue, boring characters. 0/10 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review Gareth v Not a bad movie, but this Steve Martin project does come across as being quite creepy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review April B One of my favorite movies of all time. Love the dynamics of it all. Very Artistic and Dark. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/23 Full Review Viv L There is something about this movie, I just love it. Steve Martin's character is serious, he barely cracks a smile, let alone a joke - it's unnerving. The mental health struggles for all three main characters are laid out across the frames of the movie in a slow unpicking. And the music is a beautiful and moving complement to that unpicking. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Sometimes I feel like critics just love a nice glass of wine to go along with a boring film . Acting was fine but that’s it . 1.8. Why did they gotta make Steve Martin such a prick you could tell it was unnatural for him . I feel like the goal was to try to make it kinda a gatsby esque film but they failed Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/21 Full Review Read all reviews
