In Shotgun Wedding, Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding, just as the couple begin to get cold feet. And if that wasn't enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone's lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. "'Til Death Do Us Part" takes on a whole new meaning in this hilarious, adrenaline-fueled adventure as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones--if they don't kill each other first.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Shotgun Wedding may be just the invitation to escapism that romcom fans and JLo completists are looking for -- but most other viewers can safely RSVP no without regrets.

Audience Says

Although the great cast covers for some of Shotgun Wedding's problems, they're not enough to make up for the bizarre premise and predictable story.

Kimber Myers Crooked Marquee Shotgun Wedding isn’t the worst rom-com ever made, but it’s the type of generically terrible offering that serves as a reminder of why my beloved genre fell out of fashion — a fate that Jennifer Lopez herself may be partially responsible for. Rated: D+ Feb 21, 2023 Full Review Ed Potton The Times (UK) While the director Jason Moore spends much of the film demonstrating how good Lopez looks at 53, Coolidge steals every scene she is in as the mother of the groom (“when I’m in formal wear I like to pee standing up”). Rated: 3/5 Feb 14, 2023 Full Review Leah Greenblatt Entertainment Weekly This Wedding clearly wasn't meant to be a masterpiece, but even as mid-winter fluff it feels like a rush job. Rated: C- Feb 1, 2023 Full Review Sammie Purcell Rough Draft Atlanta The real draw is Lopez and Duhamel, whose odd-couple energy is delightfully daffy. The film cleverly riffs on their film personas, and delivers on action/comedy buffoonery with zeal. Jul 24, 2025 Full Review John Daniel Tangalin The Cinema Spot If we are to look at it as a cross-genre film, then there is some work to be done. Other than that, there is nothing to hate about it. It is something akin to Die Hard if it were to take place in American Wedding. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com It’s annoying and flat and doesn’t let you form connections with the protagonists. bob t I honestly had a good time with it. It's very funny and has good action. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Stacey N This movie was way more entertaining than I anticipated. It clearly is supposed to be far-fetched and I laughed all the way through it (no, I wasn’t drinking or high!) Even the cheese was written and performed hilariously! I never saw Josh D. being able to do “funny” but he was perfectly matched with Jennifer who is impeccable in her comedic timing. Jennifer is to rom-coms what John McEnroe & André Agassi together (pulling from my era) are to tennis. In fact, each cast member was perfectly chosen for their parts and completely made the movie. To top it off, the film location was beautiful and now I’d like to go there. BRB, packing my bags. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Ingeborg W I can’t wrap my head around why this movie didn’t do better. I thought it was absolutely hilarious from start to finish. Jennifer Coolidge doing what she does best, J Lo reminding us of her romcom height, and a fun premise (pirates plus wedding = a bloody fun time). As someone who got married recently, this movie became my go-to destress movie. If I judge this movie for what it’s supposed to be (an action comedy romance) they absolutely nailed it. Do yourself a favour, get some popcorn, a blanket, and enjoy people being silly and some gratuitous violence. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Christian S Super entertaining! Loved it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review Jen S Cute rom-com, some cringe worthing seeming forcing bad line moments, but what I REALLY can't help but be bothered by: one scene Jlo has makeup on... next scene she doesnt... next scene she does.... Do better, you're putting this out for the world to see. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Brett D You know a rom com is bad when you don't even want the couple to end up together. Jennifer Coolidge and D'Arcy Carden are always on point, but they just can't save the ridiculous plot and unbelievable action. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
