Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews An intense man's action marine war movie, that is surprisingly good for all its cliches about war and the marines. Rated: B+ Dec 21, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

DanTheMan 2 There are no stirring heroics, no rousing patriotic speeches, and certainly no examination of the conflict's causes or consequences in The Siege of Firebase Gloria—just the cold, efficient butchery skills of men killing other men. There's very little in the way of jingoistic clichés and slo-mo heroics here; the whole film feels more like a leaked military snuff tape with its brutally frank depiction of the war, where both U.S. military personnel and Viet Cong fight tooth and nail as unsympathetic governments on either side move chess pieces about. These are ultimately scared human beings, some barely more than boys, who don't know why they have to do these horrible things, only that they must if they want to survive. Delivering 99 blood-soaked minutes, both sides shoot, stab, garrotte and strangle a seemingly inexhaustible supply of extras, Director and Ozploitation king Brian Trenchard-Smith pulls off a seemingly tremendous feat, making such a hostile subject entertaining, even thought-provoking, all on a frugal budget. The film not only packs in a lot of action but also personal by-play that delivers a wallop largely thanks to the fabulous script and tremendous leading performances. The always reliable R. Lee Ermey, who, true to form, unleashes an ungodly amount of guttural insults at decibel-shattering volume; all the while, a completely unhinged Wings Hauser displays a worrying enthusiasm for machine-gunning at every opportunity, readily suggesting an urgent need for psychiatric care. Backed by a chillingly effective synth score by Paul Schutze and incredible production values for its budget, The Siege of Firebase Gloria doesn't attempt to provide a Hollywood sheen to this ungodly nightmare and succeeds because of it. It comes with a hardened heart, where the humanity of its characters acts as one of the few beacons of light amongst the horrors of this hell. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Frenie L Little known Vietnam movie with R.Lee Ermey. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Preston B The helicopter pilots saved the whole movie Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review doug c This movie is a joke, and I love Lee Ermy. The narration is ridiculous, and 15 minutes in the naked CO scene was a joke, had to turn it off it was that bad Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member its 80s action movie cheese with Wings Hauser and the late R. Lee Ermy as Corporal DiNardo USMC and Sargeant Marjor Hafner USMC as part of LRRP Platoon who holds up at a US Army FOB as the Tet Offensive begins. stay alert, stay alive. it's as simple as that! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/13/20 Full Review a a Wildly inaccurate as far as Vietnam War movies go, but it's perfectly overdramatic and fun to watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
