Albert Popwell began his career as a professional dancer before switching his focus to acting. He did not receive his first work until he was almost 40, when he began appearing in episodes of numerous television shows. Throughout the 1960s he appeared in programs like "Tarzan," "Gomer Pyle, United StatesM.C.," as well as movies like "Coogan's Bluff" in which he appeared alongside Clint Eastwood. Popwell went on to act frequently with Eastwood, and appeared in the first four "Dirty Harry" movies, playing a different character in each. In "Dirty Harry" he was the recipient of the famous "Do you feel lucky?" speech, and in "Sudden Impact" he played Eastwood's partner, Horace King. Throughout this period Popwell continued to act in smaller roles on television, including "Kojak," "Columbo," "Sanford and Son," and "The A-Team." In addition to his work with Eastwood, Popwell is perhaps best known for his appearances in the blaxploitation classic "Cleopatra Jones" and its sequel, "Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold." Popwell continued acting, predominantly on television, throughout the 1980s.
