Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The film is finally overwhelmed by its own ambition, not to mention one too many gimmicks in its plot, but it goes down swinging. Unfortunately it is also like a nightmare in that there's little of the movie you care to remember. retrotennis c One of the first movies I watched that did not have a linear timeline besides Birdy. I still have yet to see a movie with such a great cast and Ellen Barkin carries the film from beginning to end with such aplomb. One of my favorite movies period, point blank. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review john k I saw this a few years back when I was doing nothing so what the heck, I liked Ellen Barkin's movies, especially Johnny Handsome. I was unsure where it was going, but everyone seemed just a little off center except Ellen's character and natch, the opposite happens and it is Ellen's character that isnt right, but everyone else makes sense once it is clear what really happened. Not great but reminded me of Dont Look Now, a much superior movie, but still a fun watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 01 hour: and 37 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review steve d not a lot there for the actress to do. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I had wanted to see this for years because I knew the soundtrack and it was stunning. But in some ways the music mirrors the film. Bits of brilliance that link not at all. Except the movie just links not at all. I really wanted to like this. One critic had pointed out Mary Lambert was a music video director, and perhaps that is her forte. 97 min plots are not. I haven't read the book so cannot comment on the source material but it did feel like one of those meandering 60s films with no plot either. In fact 60s sums it up apart from the nudity. Julian Sands (the Americans' idea of an archetypal rich English fop) cements that air. The nudity is not gratuitous as this is a ‘film about death and sex', but one cannot help feeling there is a better film to be made about that. So sad. I will try to repossess the music now -Miles is…Miles. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Ellen Barkin wakes up in Spain covered in blood and unable to remember the last few days. She fears she might have murdered her ex-boyfriend Garbriel Byrne or his wife Isabella Rossellini. She is supposed to be back in the States performing a stunt jump for her new boyfriend, Martin Sheen, but she stays around trying to determine what happened ... getting involved with eccentric millionaire Julian Sands, Jodie Foster, Spanish cab driver Alexei Sayle and Grace Jones. I thought it was pretty incredible that I had never heard of a film with this cast and plot line. It's easy enough to explain that ... the film is a roaring piece of shit. Slow, meandering and incoherent, it feels designed to generate a cult following with it's deliberate weirdness. Other than a truly astonishing amount of nudity from Barkin, there's quite literally no reason to watch this. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
