When television producers select Simon Foster (Peter Finch) and his wife, Laura (Kay Kendall), to be the subjects of a live television series documenting a completely happy marriage, they appear to be the perfect choice. On camera, the couple is caring and supportive of each other. However, in reality, their relationship is very rocky, and they frequently argue. Because their show is a hit, Simon and Laura try to keep up the facade for audiences until cracks start to surface on the air.

The theme is old but it is very well dressed up in a new setting of television... Muriel Box, who directed it, makes it easy to forget that her film was adapted from a play; there is no staginess about it. Go to Full Review

Simon and Laura leans towards farce, but never quite topples over. It is admirably served by its players. Go to Full Review

Its satire and sophistication make a refreshing change and I can heartily recommend it. Go to Full Review

05/06/2021 A witty and amusing comedy whose stars Peter Finch and Kay Kendal play a theatrical couple who have a rather tempestuous relationship. A soot covered London provides the backdrop - all the characters seem to smoke all the time -unlike in modern movies! See more 09/13/2014 Enjoyable but slight. See more Read all reviews
