Robby B I love this short, so much nostalgia. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Jacob B I'm sorry guys. I respect what Illumination was trying to do by paying homage to Michael Jackson's groundbreaking music video but Sing Thriller just didn't impress me all that much. Even by the standards of Illumination's notoriously safe approach towards filmmaking, this short was underwhelming for me. It's just a variation on the iconic music video but with Sing characters. It just felt like something that was put on Netflix because someone at Illumination didn't want to have this short on the Despicable Me 4 DVD & Blu-ray. And also, Shrek did the Michael Jackson tribute better all the way back in 2012 with a shorter runtime. An ideal choice for parents easing their children into spooky stuff but are currently feeling uncomfortable with showing them the original 1983 video but for me, it was simply Illumination going through the motions. At least the cast they could afford to bring back did a good job with the cover and the animation looks nice because of Universal's preferential treatment towards Illumination, or so I'm told. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Erich T I'm not sure if I'm against the film or against the idea honestly. Full disclosure I didn't even know this was a short going in. Seeing this on Netflix I expected atleast a holiday special or something. But I digress, with the 13 minute runtime my only thought I am able to offer on this is what was the point in all this. You paid all those a list stars for bairly 13 minutes of a story. Why? It's not even a full conclusion on anything. A good short raps up a storyline in the finite time you have. This is only good for leaving you wanting for something more. So my only thought is judge it for yourself.. There's nothing to review here in my mind. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Santana C I didn’t think an Illumination short on Netflix will do better than Dreamworks. But I’m so obsessed with the short, I can’t get the song out of head. 9/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review SkyRo P I wanted to take a moment to review all three installments of this delightful series in one go: the original film "Sing," its sequel "Sing 2," and the short feature "Sing: Thriller." Starting with the first movie, it was truly engaging, packed with entertaining moments and amazing music that was nothing short of spectacular. The voice talents of Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton really shone through, and Tori Kelly's portrayal of a timid character who ultimately makes a significant impact was simply breathtaking. The plot, centered around an audition to save a theater spearheaded by Matthew McConaughey's character, allowed for the development of a diverse cast of animal characters. This vibrant storytelling captivated audiences from start to finish, making the first film a must-see for everyone. The sequel, "Sing 2," followed up impressively with its own share of stunning moments and laughs. The film focused on a stage production, with Reese Witherspoon reprising her role, while allowing some side characters to take center stage. This narrative twist introduced a genuine villain, enhancing the storyline. I appreciated how this sequel presented a layered narrative, showcasing a soft-hearted lion grappling with his wife's death, ultimately finding the strength to reclaim his star status with the encouragement of his fans and the production team. It was a heartfelt journey filled with a touching plot. The short film "Sing: Thriller" brought back our beloved characters for a Halloween-themed production of Michael Jackson's classic. It was a delightful addition, filling the gap as we await the next chapter in the series. This brief feature allowed us to reconnect with the characters and experience their charm once again. In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend both films and the short. They provide a complete and enjoyable storyline, fantastic music, and a cast of unforgettable characters that contribute to a wonderfully entertaining animated experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Audience Member Nice tribute to the Michael Jackson song, the duration of the short is pleasingly enough and a great option to watch if you want something with a great animation.
