What to Know

Critics Consensus

A rip-roaring fusion of masterful visual storytelling and toe-tapping music, writer-director Ryan Coogler's first original blockbuster reveals the full scope of his singular imagination.

Audience Says

Ryan Coogler has not only delivered a deliciously vicious vampire hit, but an unapologetically Black genre knockout ablaze with a killer cast and a cranked-up score.

Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) This is a story told through its music, and it's so well done. May 7, 2025 Full Review Adam Kempenaar Filmspotting Sinners is a redemption movie, a revenge movie with elements of Blaxploitation, and certainly a red-blood-soaked horror movie; it’s also deeply romantic and has the rhythms and audaciousness of some of our boldest musicals. Rated: 4.5/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review Dwight Brown DwightBrownInk.com Somewhere in this artful and audacious 137-minute horror/thriller is an even more phenomenal 120-minute film. Rated: 3/4 Apr 30, 2025 Full Review Sammie Purcell Rough Draft Atlanta While sometimes chaotic in its execution, with “Sinners,” Coogler has succeeded in sneaking profound ideas into a B-movie spectacular. Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Vera Wylde Council of Geeks This did such a great job at getting me invested in these characters and this setting long before the vampires show up. Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Andrew Kendall Stabroek News Like many of the things invoked in “Sinners”, the ideas are more portentous than their follow-throughs. Bobby North Amazing film with an amazing cast, story and director. It’s a Must watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Keith S I really enjoyed the storyline. Yeah, the vampire effect I wanted more action Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Nathan J Sinners Is. What a fantastic, phenomenal show of cinematic and Black excellence. Several thoughts on this but overall it is the whole entire package. The cast, the emotions, the MUSIC. There are layers upon layers to what were shown, and it’s done so unabashedly: you’ll either get it, or you’ll appreciate how it feels and looks. Even when you think you get it, there is so much more to discover upon a second watch. 5/5 to be honest, I found almost nothing I didn’t like about it that doesn’t sound like someone reaching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Jorge O the hype for this was indeed justified Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Jack G Ryan Coogler did such a great job for horror! Michael B. Jordan is 💰! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Timothy It is s vert deep movie touching on a couple of subjects. The messages are there but you have to be in tge right spiritual and mental place to see what you need to see Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
