A film with some engaging performances and a swell soundtrack whose biggest problem is that it wants to be "Dazed and Confused" when it grows up. Go to Full Review

Like so many other films set in the Reagan era, Anthony Burns' directorial debut fails to acknowledge the lingering and pervasive angst that shaped anyone growing up in the late Cold War. Go to Full Review

Skateland is dedicated to the late teen film icon John Hughes. I think he'd pretty proud. Go to Full Review

One part Dazed & Confused, two parts John Hughes. Set in 1983, the movie's level of 80s detail is damn near perfect - from the Skateland rink to the clothes, right on down to the Musicland in the mall. Go to Full Review

Skateland, Anthony Burns' 1983-set coming of age story, is warm, welcoming and seen through a high gloss of nostalgia. Go to Full Review

Skateland is a charming, beautiful film buoyed by an incredible soundtrack but held back by lacklustre performances of a potentially very likeable cast. Watch it for the visuals and the music. Go to Full Review

ikiru y 11/08/2020 Formulaic, poor acting, unengaging. See more Frances H 11/26/2013 Couldn't watch more than the first 15 minutes. See more 09/18/2013 It Really portrayed the 80s...Its a fun watch! See more 08/05/2013 At times it seems like this movie wants to be "Dazed and Confused" but this movie doesn't hold a candle to that iconic masterpiece. I mean it's not nearly as fun...it's kind of dark and heavy at times....and it lacks a cast with even a fraction of the talent of the cast of "Dazed." Shiloh Fernandez looks like a young Joaquin Phoenix and sounds like a young Keanu Reeves, but that still doesn't make me care about this movie. See more 06/10/2013 I wanted to like this so much, but it's just trying to be Dazed and Confused, and failing. One guy with blonde hair even says "alright, alright, alright". It's pretty blatant. See more 05/26/2013 Everyone fails to see a point to this film. I say, the points staring right at you. The film shows a kid (Shiloh Fernandez) fresh out of high school. He's living the life he dreamed about all through his educational life. Only problem, is that he can't look past the fact that he has to grow up. Unfortunately for him, when an old friend returns home he finds out living the life of a washout isn't all its cracked up to be. Drastic changes happen to his life, that change his point of view. This movie address a lot of issues still prominent in todays society. This movie is set in the reagan era, but has nothing to do with any type of politics. The movie addresses families falling apart, being young in a world where everything is changing, and people drifting out of the life you tried so hard to build. If you want a movie set in the 80s and gives you an emotional thrill ride. Sit back and grab some popcorn and pop in Skateland. See more Read all reviews
