In all, something of a squandered opportunity. Go to Full Review

Any meaningful sense of adventure is chilled by an emphasis on domestic strife in this wildly uneven Canadian coming-of-age drama. Go to Full Review

11/30/2021 I loved this movie. I am a ice hockey player and enjoy most movies with hockey, but this one stands out to me. The premise of skating across the lake to escape the problems of their hometown is a fresh idea and an interesting one to explore. I think this is based off a book, but I'm not sure. I haven't read the book. There are some things that could be improved upon, but overall I think this is a great movie. See more 06/29/2016 Quite Farcical. No Real Rhythm To The Story, Which Is a Book-Ended By Two Hockey Games With A Coming Of Age Flavour. All Evidently Lost Because The Trial These Boys Taken On Is Near Laughable.. For The a Record, The a Breadth Of Lake Ontario Is 60-miles or 85-kilometres...To Skate Across a This, At The Height Of Winter?? With No Supplies Or Support Team...While Not Impossible..It Lacks Major Credibility & Thus, This Film Sucks. See more 11/03/2015 I really wanted to like this film, and although there are some redeeming moments...the film suffers from one too many cliches and a very shallow plot with limited character development. See more 09/06/2015 Skating to New York does provide a little small-town Canadian flavor - minor ice hockey, ice fishing, and five-pin bowling all make appearances - but the movie really comes alive only in those moments when we see the boys skating across the miles of frozen lake... in wide shot they appear as minuscule specks on an endless expanse of white......a good movie... See more 01/02/2015 Journey of lifetime, just think you can and nobody can stop you See more 12/13/2014 A great premise that sadly missed the mark. Has a thin plot and production values ala 1970s after school special See more Read all reviews
