Adam Nayman Globe and Mail Skull World tries to differentiate itself by focusing intently on a single box warrior in lieu of a more panoramic view, but Justin McConnell's film isn't particularly interesting as a character study. Rated: 1.5/4 May 10, 2013 Full Review Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See A cool subject, but not enough depth. Rated: B- Jul 8, 2020 Full Review Chris Alexander Fangoria Really, what makes McConnell's study of Sommer and the secret society in which he reigns so great is that he doesn't judge his subjects. Rated: 3.5/4 May 23, 2017 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The pic might work for those enchanted by the likable Greg's passion to play fantasy games and those who like dudes who wear Halloween masks. Rated: C Jun 23, 2013 Full Review Jamie S. Rich Oregonian A little enthusiasm goes a long way, and Greg Sommer has far more than required in "Skull World." Audience Member Skull World manages to entertain thanks to an interestingly excentric main character in the likes of Skullman. Having followed the box wars phenomenon since very early on in its inception but never taking part, I was as much interested in the crazy box war events that Skullman brought to Canada from Australia as I was in Greg Sommer the metalhead master behind everything. McConnell manages to capture a lot of "magic" over the course of many years in order to bring this documentary together. While it is far from perfect I did laugh out loud many times which is not something any previous documentary has had the previledge of achieving.
