Ian Freer Time Out Sky Peals lacks compelling conflicts and narrative fireworks, but Hussain’s film is a mood. The director and his cinematographer, Nick Cooke, shooting on 35mm film, effectively find the otherworldly in the ordinary. Rated: 3/5 Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Yasmin Omar Empire Magazine Sky Peals builds tension effectively, but stops short of meaningfully engaging with its chosen (and very worthwhile) themes. Still, if it’s a creepy-mood piece you’re after, this fits the bill. Rated: 3/5 Aug 20, 2024 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's using the science fiction idea, in the way that science fiction should be used, which is to talk about things that are completely down to earth. Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Eric Langberg Everything's Interesting The whole thing would fall apart without its central performance, but Faraz Ayub gives the movie its touching emotional core. It’s one of the most tender, nuanced depictions of depression that I think I’ve ever seen. Sep 29, 2024 Full Review Markie Robson-Scott The Arts Desk Moin Hussain’s debut feature is a sci-fi-inspired parable of alienation, often agonisingly slow and lacking in dramatic tension but strong on atmosphere and there are even a few laughs. Rated: 3/5 Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Romey Norton Film Focus Online Sky Peals is unsettling and effective in its story through its compelling action and stylised shots. With a runtime of 90 minutes, this quirky sci-fi film is worth investing your time in. Rated: 4/5 Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
