Geologist Wentao Li (Xueqi Wang) vowed he would never return to Tianhuo Island after a catastrophic volcano eruption tragically killed his wife. But 20 years later, his daughter Meng (Hannah Quinlivan) continues his research work on the island that took her mother's life, developing a brilliant eruption forecasting system that could save countless lives. The island has now been transformed into a thrill-seeking theme park by greedy businessman Jack Harris (Jason Isaacs) despite Meng's warnings. She was right. Distraught over his daughter's safety, Wentao lands on the island as the volcano begins to erupt. It's a race against the clock to save his daughter, and the tourists and villagers from the apocalyptic chaos.

It's no great leap forward in filmmaking, but the big-budget disaster movie "Skyfire" does prove that China is now capable of producing its own brand of utterly preposterous and enjoyably trashy popcorn entertainment for a global audience.

Skyfire is a rollercoaster of excitement! From the get-go, it hooks you in with its gripping narrative and never lets go. The pace is lightning-fast, ensuring there's never a dull moment throughout the entire film. You'll find yourself fully immersed in the heart-pounding action and constantly guessing what's coming next. What truly sets this movie apart are its cheesy special effects, which bring the breathtaking scenes to life in a truly immersive way. Personally, I was absolutely blown away by the sheer entertainment value of Skyfire. It's a must-watch for anyone craving a fast paced cheesy cinematic experience that delivers on all fronts!" China's first big-budget disaster pic - think "Volcano" but on an island. The disaster scenes are rather impressive, but the rest of the film around the mayhem is barely even there. Which is a shame, since the fun parts of the film are fun.

I loved this from start to finish! It's the usual storyline of a greedy businessman and woman, trying to cut corners and ignore safety concerns. But this type of storyline is a classic and it didn't disappoint. Lots of jaw dropping action and emotionally intense scenes. Watch and enjoy the ride!
