Set in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, a sleepy hamlet nestled in the majestic mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, SLASH/BACK opens as the village wakes up to a typical summer day. No School, no cool boys (well... except one), and 24-hour sunlight. But for Maika and her ragtag friends, the usual summer is suddenly not in the cards when they discover an alien invasion threatening their hometown. These teenagers have been underestimated their whole lives but, using makeshift weapons and their horror movie knowledge, they show the aliens you don't f*** with the girls from Pang.

Nick Allen RogerEbert.com It’s sincerely sweet and entertaining, and its impact is felt even more as the black alien blood starts to fly. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 21, 2022 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times There are lots of genre movies like this. None are this one. Oct 21, 2022 Full Review Radheyan Simonpillai NOW Toronto The charming cast and depictions of navigating daily life in a harsh but strikingly beautiful climate make the whole thing worthwhile. Rated: 3/5 Jun 24, 2022 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Innuksuk has given audiences such an original, unexpected spin on this old trope that “Slash/Back” transcends its shortcomings to achieve an irresistible charm. Oct 26, 2023 Full Review Kate Sánchez But Why Tho? A Geek Community Slash/Back is a strong film that captures the innocence of childhood as it crashes against violence. Sure, it’s science fiction, but the film has a heart that tackles the coming-of-age genre at the same time. Rated: 9/10 Aug 17, 2023 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Slash/Back certainly does have an intriguing premise, but it’s also flawed when it comes to its horror elements. Matt V So the production and acting are sub-par, but I liked the movie overall. There's value in having the indigenous portray their own culture. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Siân B Only reason I gave it this was because of the culture Acting was terrible and the dynamic of the children was cringy. If they think this is how children act, they need to get their head screwed on. The constant cuts to just the kids sitting there in dead silence for over a minute on their phone while is very realistic isn't enjoyable to watch. The premise is amazing but the ending was lack luster; no way in hell the aliens would just feck off after being beaten by some kids. This is no where near the THING and anyone that compares it isn't a true fan of it. It's a cheap rip off. Loved the culture and the concept: hated the way they went about it. Thanks for reading my Ted talk x Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Oluwadunsin A The acting in this movie was not it at all. The plot of the story was quite good, the editing and effects were alright also. But the acting kinda ruined everything, the kids and the adults in the movie alike. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/23 Full Review The J Having lived in a small northern town on the border of Alaska and BC, Canada, anyone who says the acting is bad, is really out of touch with what growing on in these isolated towns are like. There are people who think if people are not as shallow and ignorant as them, and focused only on football and drinking Bud Light beer, then they must be 'acting bad'. There is some really good acting from these kids, and a great debut for a director. The touches of Inuit culture and intimate moments between generations is beautiful. And even the self-referential critic of the 'how many pictures of salmon' dialogue is better then the entirety of She Hulk or Black Panther.... Sure this is not a 100 million dollar CG movie, so anyone who thinks this is 'lacking original elements' has no idea what it is like to pull of the movie they did with the budget they did. In fact probably their biggest crime was showing too much of the creatures rather then going off imagination... but the fact they made it work with what they had says a lot about the director, and their abilities... Regardless of the few haters, I think the director has at least a few really great films in them... Even some of David Fincher's work had it's critics in the beginning, absolutely sure he was a horrible director but eventually even if the people who can't get out of their own culture for a second, there is enough people who can that these director definitely has a large audience who will get their work... Looking forward to seeing more from the kids, and the director... either based in the same cultural wrappings, or something new... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review Will G. F You can see the effort behind it's flaws. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Lousy acting and script throughout. The critics must be catering to the politically correct here. Can’t believe the high score they gave. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
