The implausibility of the story is successfully screened by the dialogue which is refreshingly natural, and there are many delightful touches which the producer, Mr. Buddy Rogers, exploits to advantage. Go to Full Review

Ed . Aug 29 Creep, her sweet. Should I win the lottery and marry for love, my love would get nothing should I be murdered or missing. This movie like most ignores basic common sense in estate planning, but makes up for it elsewhere. It's highly doubtful one could be anywhere near as affected by hypnotic suggestion as Allison, but if you can ignore this, you'll enjoy the rest of the film. When it almost looked like Allison hadn't a Chinaman's chance of surviving, a semi-surprise twist and Bob Cummings' coming to her aid turned those odds around in her favor. The result is a riveting noir with a memorable screenplay and excellent performances from a great cast, most notably the very talented Claudette Colbert as Alison Courtland See more 03/21/2013 Well made wife-in-distress thriller, creatively directed by douglas sirk but feels like 'gaslight' but set in contemporary (well 1948 that is) times. See more 09/26/2012 This movie is a lot like films like Gaslight, which were better. There is a pretty good cast, and it starts out a pretty good mystery. Then it gets to be predictable, and it's not as good as it could be. See more Read all reviews
