Critics Consensus

A slimy, B-movie homage oozing with affection for low-budget horror films, Slither is creepy and funny -- if you've got the stomach for it.

Slither is a visceral experience from the first, but as the creature grows, so does the film's daring. Go to Full Review

Gross-out horror comedy is my least favorite genre, but this movie's so skillful I have to take my hat off to it. Go to Full Review

Slither is over-the-top, gross, funny, bizarre and totally weird. In other words, it might be just what you're looking for this weekend. Go to Full Review

It was obviously a love letter to the horror genre, as it imitates about a dozen other horror classics such as The Thing, Society, The Blob, Rats: Night of Terror, and Star War The Phantom Menace. Go to Full Review

Slither might be [James Gunn's] most blatant refusal of the action-movie trope[s]. Go to Full Review

As with so many zombie movies, table manners have no place here -- why should they when fresh intestines are on the menu? Gluttony, however, does bloom in Slither, and what it builds to is one savage little garden. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 3d Slither is a chaotic horror film that fails to deliver anything genuinely terrifying or engaging. The plot centers on alien parasites invading a small town, but it never develops these creatures into a compelling threat, leaving the story feeling messy and disjointed. Scenes jump from one event to another without proper pacing, and the screenplay struggles to balance horror and comedy, resulting in awkward, unintentionally funny moments rather than suspense. The direction does little to unify the film, with haphazard shots and inconsistent tone that undermine any potential tension. Characters are underdeveloped, and performances range from stiff to overacted, making it difficult to care about anyone’s fate. Even moments that should be shocking or suspenseful fall flat due to poor execution. While some of the practical effects and grotesque creature designs are visually interesting, they cannot salvage the movie. Overall, Slither is poorly written, poorly directed, and unwatchable See more Jack F @MovieFan111 5d I really liked this movie because it blended some genres such as horror and comedy. It wasn't as gross as others make it out to be, but whatever. Glad I saw it. See more Pedro Henrique C @Pedro2005 Nov 30 Slither (2006) wow, what a bizarre movie, my god. The story is quite strange; I myself expected more from it, it could have been explored in greater depth. See more Ryan C. @djrmc24 Nov 8 Slither is a horror/comedy film that reminds me of the movies they used to make back in the 80’s/90’s. The film has a simple premise that works so well, with a alien entity that lands in the middle of rural city and starts to infect people. What the viewer gets is a gory, gross, and fun time all thanks to Direcor genius that is James Gunn. He even has a small cameo in the movie toward the beginning. The movie stars Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Banks, and Nathan Fillion. What works so well here is the combination of gross out scenes, jump scares, action, and comedy. Slither gets a very high 4 stars out of 5 from me. See more Munchie A Sep 26 Fun body horror with a sci-fi twist. The gross-out factor is high. See more Drew M Sep 15 Just rewatched this: looks like ~40% of viewers don’t vibe with splatter horror-comedy. I do. Gunn’s small-town creature feature is gleefully gross and genuinely funny—practical goop, razor-sharp gags, and Rooker/Fillion chewing through the mess. Slimy, snappy, and a blast.
