Maggie Lee Variety CGI excess often overwhelms the romantic spark in this Chinese fantasy-actioner. Feb 24, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Like Underworld, but slightly more coherent and slightly less awkward in dialog. It has more of an art feel to it, and has a much better soundtrack. Yet, the CGI and pacing, as well as confused and confusing cosmology and mythology and muddied metaphysics may leave viewers scratching their heads. Much like Underworld, it has a premise of a conflict between two polar opposite supernatural forces, yet can't decide or entirely define what is good or evil, or what separates the two. Mankind are reduced to pawns for either side, and the compelling love story helps distract from all the unanswered questions and glaring plot holes. Even so, it has a very unsatisfying cliffhanger ending. Can Snow recover from her last battle? Is Kui a demon himself fully now? Will the couple ever find the redemption they seek? Will their common foe return? What exactly did become of the Dark Crystal? Perhaps a sequel can bring resolution to all this film's unsettled plot threads; but I doubt it will receive a proper sequel. It has more ambition than it does scale or budget; yet somehow works as a romantic thriller in spite of itself. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the drawbacks of excess CGI, it is a movie worth it's weight in a sequel. I look forward to a sequel with all hopes for oe. I've seen the movie and the emotion it stirs in me is mixed, but overall great. It is in my greatest opinion that the sequel should be done and hope to see news of it soon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I couldn't get into it long enough to finish. The CGI was so cheap-looking it kept pulling me out of the story to marvel at how bad it was. I've seen better effort in a YouTube video. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Ehh. I guess it was fun to watch the CGs but the story lacked any deep feels. It's one of those movies that you forgot you watched it a few hours later. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked the movie, Li Bing Bing and Jike Junyi play sisters working for Heaven and Demons.Lot's of CGI action and a surprising, enjoyable twist to the ending. Slow start but then took off and was most enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member How did I come back? Why can't I remember anything? There is a fierce balance between heaven, hell, and Earth. There is a man who watches this balance closely named Zhong Kui. A demon rises from hell and begins threatening Earth's existence. Zhong springs into action in hope of returning the demon to hell. "My wife can't get pregnant. Can you help her?" Peter Pau (The Touch) and Tianyu Zhao (The Law of Attraction) collaborate to deliver Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal. The storyline for this picture is a bit bland. There are some cool fight scenes but way too much CGI and it is a bit awkward how the CGI interacted with the real life actors. The acting is very average. "Submerge your heart. Calm your chi." I came across this on Netflix and decided to give it a shot. This was a cheesy and predictable foreign film that I found disappointing. I'd skip watching this. "Time for you to pay me back."
