Peter Pau Tak-Hai
Hong Kong native Peter Pau is a cinematographer best known for his work on the international hit "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." He graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1983 and began working as a cinematographer in the domestic Hong Kong industry in the mid '80s. His first film with international recognition was the John Woo crime feature "The Killer" in 1989. The film was a success at the Hong Kong Film Awards and earned Pau a nomination for his cinematography. He worked on the Yun-Fat Chow film "God of Gamblers" in '89 and the historical film "Swordsman" in 1990. The 1991 film "Saviour of the Soul" earned him his second Hong Kong Film Award in a year that also saw him nominated for two other films, including "Au revoir mon amour." He won again in '94 for the Ronny Yu fantasy "The Bride with White Hair" and in 1997 worked in Hollywood for the first time on the Jean-Claude Van Damme film "Double Team." He reunited with Yu on "Bride of Chucky" in 1998 before reaching a career peak with director Ang Lee on "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000, winning an Oscar in the process. Since then he has worked on the musical "Beijing Rocks" and the Clive Owen action film "Shoot 'Em Up" in 2007.
