What to Know

Critics Consensus

Society of the Snow brings masterful technical skill to bear on its tale of real-life tragedy, but none of that spectacle comes at the expense of its simple, powerful message.

Audience Says

An outstanding recreation of a grueling true story, Society of the Snow isn't the first film to dramatize these events, but it might be the best.

Rated: A Aug 15, 2025 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension Society of the Snow‘s aim, at which it succeeds, is to make us understand how not just a few but nearly all of a group of people decided to turn to cannibalism. Aug 6, 2025 Full Review Alfred Castaneda Shade Studios It's not often that a horrific survival story becomes a tearjerker, but Bayona’s accomplished this with his typically strong human storytelling. This is one of the best films of the year. Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Valerie This was beautifully shot and gave a poignant and non-sensationalized account of this true story. The acting was incredible and I appreciated how they acknowledged every person in the crash. I hope the survivors felt that this successfully represented their experience. Seeing the pictures of the real survivors at the end made me cry, plus the scene where the father is reading the names of the survivors and his son is one of them. *tears* Bravo to this excellent film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review danish Inspiring. Beautifully shot. Oscar winner. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Fusion F This movie was unexpectedly great, really haunting, atmospheric and so claustrophobic. This makes the actual events feel more disturbing, just a must-watch movie ever Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Deborah S Equal parts terrifying and inspiring. Great acting, cinematography and pacing. An homage to all that were part of the accident, and a story showing death is not always the worst alternative. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Hafidz N This plane crash movie is very powerful, with a realistic atmosphere and color tones that enhance the mood. However, the angry facial expressions still feel somewhat lacking. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Jessica K I watch A LOT of movies so I do NOT say this lightly: perfect casting, perfect acting, perfect cinematography and sound design, perfect directing and screenplay, perfect music and editing, perfect wardrobe and makeup... I could go on and on. Every single second of the film is important. You truly feel like you are watching a movie where every single actor and crew member put in 2000%. The actors and directors/crew really worked so hard and carefully to recreate such an important story. I love the support they got from the individuals who were present for the crash, as well as families of those who had passed. The fact that it didn't win an oscar honestly just proves even more that the oscars are absolute rubbish haha. It's a masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Read all reviews
