This documentary examines a basic-training camp for female soldiers in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Many of the women have joined the army because they have few other options, and arrive at camp not fully aware of the duress they will undergo. Private Johnson, especially, seems to rebel against the tactics of Drill Sergeant Abing, who tests the women's strength with intimidation and demanding exercises -- though he admits later that his experience in the military has made him unfeeling. Audience Member Not sure how sexist the "Girls" in the title is. They all seemed like young women to me. Ended up giving the whole thing a slightly condescending air. Very interesting however. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member incredibly dull and uninteresting Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member An incredibly fascinating and highly entertaining documentary depicting the lives of various young women in Army basic training. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I found this documentary about woment's basic training in 1981 fascinating. Since I was 21 years old and newly divorced then, this could have easily been me since I briefly considered joining the military. I've also learned how to shoot a gun and I loved it. The only part I found disturbing was the scene where they had to kill a chicken. I know it's necessary but it still bothered me. I hope the two women who were disrespectful and whining the entire time got dishonorable discharges. They weren't mentally ill~ they were slackers!
