isla s I found this a quite amusing and entertaining 1970s British comedy. Its a bit cheesy/cliched I suppose and features some out of date stereotypes, such as the playboy type, played by Leslie Philips. I also recognised Frank Thornton (who played Captain Peacock in TV series 'Are You Being Served?') and Arthur Lowe (who played Captain Mainwaring in TV series 'Dads Army'). A random observation I made was that at the start of the film, it reminded me a bit of a key scene in the film 'Back to the Future', as is featured on the film poster it appears. The comedy is pretty slapstick in style, visual comedy - nothing entirely outstanding I suppose but it certainly got me laughing. Its silly, a little zany - perhaps 'madcap' is the more appropriate term to use?. I suppose its about the lengths people will go in the search of greed but it didn't feel entirely preachy, in a way as to make it not funny, obviously. I found it amusing that words such as 'rotter' were used - a term thats rarely used these days in my experience. I really enjoyed it as an easy and light watch with a goodo few laughs present and so I'd recommend it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review martin a This is a wonderful lost Gem of a film, it has a lovely Ealing Film feel to it, It is more of a black comedy than an outright comedy, and the film is split between four main characters, The story is about A wealthy practical joker Wilfrid Brambell leaves 4 distant relatives a some of the money on the condition that each of them carries out his instructions to the word and if they do not, they will lose all of the money. But there is a twist, Thora Hird who plays a hotel guest nightmare has to work in a hotel for one month, Michael Hordern has to get himself jailed for a minor crime, Ronnie Corbett has to wear a mask and threaten his bank boss, and Leslie Phillips who is a womanizer has to marry the first woman he meets after the reading. There are two twists in the plot, one for Leslie Phillips and one for all of the poor relatives awaiting their cash. The film is littered with fantastic stars such as Barbara Murray, Dennis Price, James Robertson-Justice, Arthur LoweEleanor Summerfield, Norman Mitchell, Claire Davenport, Frank Thornton, and Brian Oulton, An outstanding film, each actor is a pure delight.
