Alex B Some good moments but there's a LOT better options out there Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Eddie M my friend thought it was the worst movie ever but I found it funny and entertaining, and really dumb and immature but that comes with the territory Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/12/22 Full Review Audience Member I honestly enjoyed it. it's silly, funny, a lil raunchy humor at times, but the heartwarming lifetime friends thing was nice. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/22 Full Review corkball There is someone for everyone, or so this movie would have you believe. Labine is about as perfectly cast as I can imagine for his role, and both he and Punch do a really good job of hamming it up here - most of the rest of the cast is there as a foil for these two. I felt like no actual dialogue was written, and the director just said 'make up some raunchy stuff'. I laughed REALLY hard in some spots even though some people might refer to me as a 'barry'. Some of the material was just over the top gross and no longer funny. It is really hard to walk that line between shockingly funny and just gross, but more often than not, I felt they hit it right. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Good watch, could watch again, and can recommend. I'm not a big fan of either Tyler Labine or Lucy Hall, but they do quite a bit of heavy lifting in this, and it's not that they don't do a good job, but if you don't like them, you're not going to like this. The other "sane" characters are really more of a background set for the events of Barry's rom-com, allowing a structure of motivations and weird adversarial obstacles. If you like Labine and / or Hall, then check this out, I think you'll be delightfully surprised. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Strengths: The cast is pretty filled with some folks who well versed in the world of comedy. Tyler Labine (Barry Burke) is the titular character and was seemingly born to play this kind of role. He feels totally natural in even the most over the top scenes. Damon Wayans Jr. (Desmond) is a highlight and probably the funniest actor of the bunch. Hayes MacArthur (Rafe) and Thomas Middletitch (Kurt) both do well with characters that are given arcs where they grow as people. The cast have great chemistry together and it really is what makes the movie work the most. Weaknesses: Lucy Punch (Melanie Miller) plays the girl that Barry eventually falls for. She's a bit too similar to Barry. It was like having two of the same character on screen and that isn't ideal. It became too much of the same thing, over and over. They crammed a lot of crude humor into this. Crude humor is fine in doses, but when it's the entire movie, it suffers and you get diminishing returns. While the supporting cast get arcs, they don't feel like they're intertwined that well into the main plot, so they aren't given much attention and they suffer because of it. Overall: If you like inappropriate comedy, this is probably something you'll enjoy. I found it to be amusing and I don't regret watching it. However, it is nowhere near the best movies of its kind. The cast worked well together, but there are too many familiar tropes relied on throughout.[** 1/2] Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nick Schager The Dissolve The way the film hews to tiresome conventions is itself a buzzkill, but worse is its sheer lack of energy[.] Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 13, 2014 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times There's nothing sophisticated or groundbreaking here, but the movie is a moderately good entry in the bro-grows-up genre.
