Audience Member This movie made me cry... Several times. :-( Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member very good movie...better than Precious, and extremely well performed. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of cheesy, but I guess it was supposed to be more of a PSA-type thing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh, it's a...uh...black movie. If I'd known my channels better, I would have known it was on Starz in black. Nothing against black movies, but without experiencing that life, it all seems kinda exploitative and stereotypical. This movie tries but fails for the above reasons. First, there is the suicide attempt. Tate washes down a bottle of pills evidently with drain cleaner, yet is out of the hospital within a day or two and able to smoke. Maybe things have changed, but Gary Kinder wrote Victim about a case where several people were forced to drink Drano. The perp had seen it in a Dirty Harry movie and it was a silent way to kill someone. It didn't kill everyone and definitely not right away, but it did lots and lots of damage. For Tate to be in and out of the hospital is laughable and definitely lazy writing. Jesus, just make him drink a bottle of vodka or something. By the way, Victim is an incredible book. Getting past that, I actually like the implentation of back story. It's a short movie but you get a lot of back story and information on the characters. Unfortunately, a lot of it has been done before. The abusive stepfather who molests/beats the kids. That is evidently what is killing Tate. I watch a lot of movies and will admit the eggs scene was one of the most disturbing I've seen. The kid claims to eat his breakfast so he can go play, but stepdad finds it in the trash can. Upon his return, young Tate is made to eat the eggs...ants and all. He can't do it and is subsequently beaten. That's a pretty rough scene. So the story is okay. Some lazy writing and some unconvincing acting. Depressed, I suppose, is tough to play, but it just didn't ring true at all. And the running bit at the end leans toward ridiculous. Oh well, what else did I have to do on a Monday afternoon? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this movie on Netflix, and it is amazing. Jocko Sims is a wonderful actor, and he not only showcases that here, but in the Starz television show Crash. He had to carry a large majority of the movie on his own, and he did it like a seasoned professional. I encourage everyone to see this, it's excellent work. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Incredible independant film about a young African American guy struggling with depression from a tortured childhood. Incredibly well acted, and heartbreaking. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
