A rodeo cowboy, John Bishop (John Wayne) is framed for cheating during a competition and is jailed. But Bob Leadly (Henry B. Walthall), who runs the rodeo, gets him out. Bishop agrees to accompany Leadly to Mexico to find the man's son, Bart (Paul Fix), who is rumored to be riding with a notorious gang of horse thieves. Things go sour in Mexico, and Bishop is taken prisoner by the bandits Bart is running with. Bishop then has to think of a way to free Bob and get Bart to come back home.
