matthias s "Somersby, a cinematic rollercoaster that leaves you torn between applause and yawns. The stellar cast delivers great acting, with performances that elevate the film despite its shortcomings. The plot, initially promising, meanders between captivating and downright boring. The courtroom sequence is a standout, a shining moment that makes you wish the entire movie had the same pulse-pounding energy. While the script fails to maintain its momentum, the film's saving grace lies in its excellent soundtrack, setting the mood with finesse. The ensemble cast does their best, but the lack of a compelling twist at the end leaves you feeling unsatisfied. Somersby is a cocktail of highs and lows, a good watch for those seeking a mix of great acting and courtroom drama, but be prepared for the occasional dip into the realm of boredom." Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review John R Tonally, this movie was kind of all over the place. There are some interesting ideas, such as how much of our identity is based on who other people think or say we are and whether your good name is worth your life. On the whole though, this is the sort of movie you put on once and then never think about again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Good not great. Gere and Foster make it compelling enough for one man’s love and sacrifice. Edward Guthmann San Francisco Chronicle What sounded like an embarrassing blunder -- the romantic pairing of Richard Gere and Jodie Foster -- turns out to be surprisingly entertaining and persuasive.
