Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times Cain presents a story that, without being extraordinarily original, ends up seducing due to its sense of risk and the respect provoked by its obvious but successful flirtations with the universe of the legendary David Lynch. [Full review in Spanish] Sep 4, 2025 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian Appealing though its crisp sci-fi premise makes it, Racheal Cain’s debut feature nonetheless feels as if it has been directly imprinted with far too many secondhand pop-cultural memories. Rated: 2/5 Sep 1, 2025 Full Review Daniel M. Kimmel North Shore Movies There’s a number of interesting things going on in SOMNIUM, a first feature by writer/director Racheal Cain. It makes the film watchable, but it’s a near-miss. Rated: 2/5 Sep 16, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org [T]hose wanting a different take on someone heading to Hollywood despite the odds will find lots of emotion here ... SOMNIUM isn’t a fright fest, nor is it the likes of MULHOLLAND DRIVE, but like a dream, parts of it linger. Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views Writer and director Racheal Cain delivers a stunning feature debut, but the ambiguous ending may leave viewers feeling cheated even if they enjoyed most of the film. Sep 14, 2025 Full Review Amie Simon I Love Splatter This haunting sci-fi/thriller is a solid first feature effort from Director Racheal Cain, showing promise for her art of creating story, setting, and suspense. As Gemma, Chloë Levine delivers a jaw-droppingly perfect performance. Sep 13, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Tori A I was surprised by how much I ended up liking this movie. Felt like Stranger Things meets Black Mirror, with undertones of Mulholland Drive. More of a slow burn but it pays off in the end and the performances alone are worth a watch. Excited to see what comes next for this team. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/17/25 Full Review Sarah M This is a very beautifully crafted psychological thriller. Not so much horror, but using elements as a part of the inner shadows the protagonist, Gemma must face. Chloë Levine shines in this role, showing her vast range. It is a slow burn and my main critique is the flashbacks, of which I felt there were too many and slowed the film down. However, there is a subsequent back story plot line and it proves its importance as the moral has much to do with living in the present, not future tripping or living in the illusions of the past. The third act is incredible and delivers an enigmatic punch, not tying everything up neatly, but allowing for the audience's imagination to ponder. And the back story and its importance becomes clear. Super high production value, cool aesthetic, moody and internally focused rather than relying on high outer stakes. In the end, loved it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/25 Full Review Damien T While not as scary as the trailer makes it out to be, this was still an exceptionally-executed debut feature, rich with intriguing concepts, stunning cinematography and fantastic performances. Left me thinking for several days after watching. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review Gil Z For an indie, this is really well done. All the elements are checked off....great acting performances, beautiful photography, captivating storyline and enough creepy, eerie moments that keep you engaged. I throughly enjoyed the lead actress Chloe Levine's performance of a small town girl trying to find her way in Hollywood and the downward spiral that happens from there. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review Shep P So cringe. I couldn't even finish watching it. When a movie makes me roll my eyes every 5 minutes I know that I don't want to waste any more of my life watching it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Janie C. More than an hour in and still not getting to the main point f the story or anything that resembles how this movie was portrayed in the trailer. Supposed to be scary strange but nothing like that at all. A complete waste of time with a poorly executed screenplay although the actors especially lead actress did all she could do with what she got. I really don’t understand how this got a 90% rating?? Whatta total joke. 👎👎 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
