G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle Some may be put off by the slow pace of “Songs of Earth,” but think of it as a feature, not a bug. It is meditative, contemplative and transportive. Rated: 4/4 May 29, 2024 Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter A delicate film, one that frequently feels like it benefits more from being experienced than analyzed or interrogated. Nov 16, 2023 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson Vox A remarkable, poetic meditation, Songs of Earth weaves the smallness of human lifespan into the grandness of the earth’s history, and does it all with unspeakable beauty. Sep 30, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills The scenery conveys a degree of timelessness in which mankind is perhaps a comparatively fleeting presence. But the frequent sound of cracking ice, and snowpacks groaning towards avalanche, remind that this, too, may pass, and sooner than later. Jun 7, 2024 Full Review Joel Copling Spectrum Culture The human part of this movie is a lesson in storytelling humility. When the camera turns to nature, it’s humbling in a very different way. May 28, 2024 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies [T]his gentle, beautiful, and, at times, haunting documentary finds just the right balance of appreciation for the present, grief for the past, and worry for the future. Anne Simple, honoring a life well lived in a place where nature is still a big part of that life. A reminder of the power of nature and that we are not dominant. But being in it brings joy and peace. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Carol This movie has the potential of being life changing. With its simple message and stunning cinematography, this movie hits at all levels: physical, spiritual, philosophical, practical, and creative. It is filled with apt metaphors about life and death and spreading roots. I cannot wait to watch it again with a pen in hand! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Ole T Sublime about the bonds binding man and nature.
