Robert Daniels RogerEbert.com In trying to parse the morals of a woman learning to coexist with the killer of her son, Möller arrives at a bleak ending that undercuts his critique of the dehumanization inherent to so many prison systems. Feb 25, 2024 Full Review Leslie Felperin The Hollywood Reporter It’s a shame that the sloppiness of the script here — the sort of thing that could easily have been fixed in pre-production — lets down what could have been a very compelling, eminently remake-able conceit. Feb 24, 2024 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire Unresolved and deflatingly rhetorical as it might be, Möller’s thriller maintains its bruising hold over us because it refuses to see that as a failure of his country’s prison system, as opposed to its ultimate success. Rated: B- Feb 23, 2024 Full Review William Stottor Loud and Clear Reviews Sidse Babett Knudsen is sensational in Gustav Möller’s Sons (Vogter), a far-fetched but chilling prison thriller that explores morality, punishment, justice, and rehabilitation. Rated: 4/5 Sep 3, 2024 Full Review Nicolás Medina Montevideo Portal / Latido Beat Möller's direction is outstanding, resorting to a conventional narrative, but maintaining tension and suspense throughout the film. Andrei S Robert E. Lee It is certainly not a film aimed at the Hollywood-breed morons. This says it all. The atmosfere is tense and gloomy in a minimalist setting (a prison after all). Knudsen acts superbly. Many questions remain open which is perfectly all right. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Aegina B I was willing to overlook plot holes the size of Cincinnati to focus on the psychological drama of the film. The performances were excellent, and some of the scenes very subtly examined social class or dislodged expectations (like Eva's visit to another mother's home, which did both.) But overall, many details and connections -- moral, psychological, or just plain circumstantial -- remained sketchy and underwritten. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
