What to Know

Critics Consensus

Spectre nudges Daniel Craig's rebooted Bond closer to the glorious, action-driven spectacle of earlier entries, although it's admittedly reliant on established 007 formula.

Namrata Joshi The Hindu Perhaps it's my own fatigue with the Bond franchise and the knowledge of exactly where it will go and how things will turn out that makes the old-fashioned and nicely campy Spectre not as gripping a ride as I would have wanted it to be. Jan 2, 2019 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com It is a tired retread that offers little new or original, taking 007 to the one place he's arguably never been before: irrelevance. Rated: 2/4 Aug 22, 2016 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Daniel Craig recently said that he'd rather "kill himself" than do another Bond film -- and in Spectre, his misery shows. Rated: 2/4 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson The most crucial and effective answer "Spectre" provides to combat the ominous expectations before it is talent. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Josh Slater-Williams Vague Visages The less said about Monica Bellucci’s part the better. Anyone from that quite large group of fans wishing for years for Bellucci to be in a Bond film will surely be furious at all she’s given to do here, and how little of it there is. Frank Smith The technology is amazing, acting exceptionally good and absorbing. We were gripping the edges of our seats in some scenes. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/22 Full Review Jo & Co Very enjoyable and was one of the best Bond movies we have seen for the first two thirds. Then it became very much as we have seen before. And it dragged. It was also very silly. There was no need for it at all. This was a clear case of "Less is More". We still give it four stars because it was excellent for the majority of the movie. Daniel Craig at his very best. We missed it the first time around and glad we caught it at the reboot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/09/22 Full Review I A Don’t lose your time!!!!! 0!!!!! Only James Bond character -Daniel Craig isn’t James Bond film….It’sn’t worth to look….all womens characters-Bellucci, Léa Seydoux….so fake…. Not viewable ! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Dave C It's good, but not great, serving as a bridge to the overarching story running through all five of DC's Bond movies. However, it does set the scene well for the next installation, and is enjoyable enough to watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review Jace E Just once, I would like to see Daniel Craig's Bond operate as a regular 00 agent. In every movie he's either disavowed, presumed dead or operating on his own. The addition of Christoph Waltz is brilliant, Lea Seydoux's Madeleine might be my favorite "Bond girl" (if we're excluding Moneypenny) and Ralph Fiennes' M is just as strong as Judi Dench's. Though not as strong as Skyfall or Casino Royale, it is still much better than Quantum of Solace. The giant explosion is epic, the blindfolded escape is sharp and the action is pretty solid (though bloated at times). I could have lived without the rushed finale. Best Character: M Best Quote: "Out of bullets" - James Bond Best Scene: At Blofeld's Compound Best Piece of Score: "Writing's On the Wall" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/25 Full Review Oliver J A grand, stylish return to classic Bond swagger — shaken, not stirred.” Critics Consensus: Spectre may not match the emotional resonance of Skyfall, but it delivers a lavish, thrilling adventure steeped in the franchise’s most iconic traditions. Daniel Craig remains a commanding force as 007 — colder, sharper, and more self-aware than ever — while director Sam Mendes orchestrates a globe-trotting spectacle of espionage, elegance, and explosive set pieces. From the breathtaking pre-title sequence in Mexico City to the shadowy showdown in London, Spectre is a feast for the senses. The film revels in old-school Bond charm — gadgets, glamorous locales, and a sinister organization pulling the strings. Christoph Waltz’s Blofeld exudes menace and intelligence, even if his connection to Bond feels more convenient than compelling. Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine Swann adds grace and mystery, grounding the story with understated depth. Verdict: Stylish, muscular, and unapologetically nostalgic, Spectre is a confident continuation of the Craig era — a celebration of Bond’s legacy that balances modern grit with classic cool.
