Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Speedway is pleasant, kind, polite, sweet and noble, and if the late show viewers of 1988 will not discover from it what American society was like in the summer of 1968, at least they will discover what it was not like. Rated: 2/4 May 21, 2005 Full Review Renata Adler New York Times Music, youth and customs were much changed by Elvis Presley 12 years ago; from the 26 movies he has made since he sang "Heart-break Hotel" you would never guess it. May 21, 2005 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Speedway is just too formulaic to be a good Elvis Presley movie--the magic is missing at this point in his career. We Talk N Elvis and racing are two of my favorite things and this film does everything right. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review Nizar N If you're coming here just for Elvis, then you'll most probably end up disappointed. It's not that the movie is bad, but it's just not what one would expect from Elvis, and for me personally that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Speedway may have certain bland parts in addition to some unrealistic scenes compensated by sudden plot twists to balance it out, but it still is an enjoyable movie to watch, and one shouldn't forget the racing element of the movie, which is exhilarating in itself. That is, of course, in addition to Nancy Sinatra's winsome performance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/23/23 Full Review Gunnar A good plot for an Elvis movie in 1968. The songs aren't bad Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/23 Full Review steve d One of the dumbest of the Elvis films. Fans will find something to like but not a lot. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Diana M I just watched Speedway for the very first time. It's definitely light-hearted but not without depth. Fascinating glimpse into the late 1960's: culture, technology, fashion. The performances of Elvis, Nancy Sinatra, and many of the supporting actors make this movie a fun watch… Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/22 Full Review Audience Member The first "Hangout" number has bounce and color. But, whoa, the racing scenes are a grainy do-loop bore. The IRS office music/dance sequence (yes, there is one) so stupefied me that it becomes worth noting for sheer gray suited dumbness. The film does have a 1968 time capsule (sure, with Elvis) feel about it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
