Effective space alien horror with a Soviet-era twist, Sputnik proves there are still some scary good sci-fi thrillers left in the galaxy.

David Stratton The Australian As the scientist who becomes attracted to her patient, Akinshina gives a strong performance... Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Eric Kohn indieWire "Sputnik" is a reminder of the mixed-bag experience that so many of them offer: It's an efficient, effects-driven ride with snippets of real ideas, but never quite willing to take them out of this world. Rated: C+ Aug 21, 2020 Full Review Kristy Puchko Pajiba Most of all, I recommend Sputnik for its monster, which will slither then stalk and snake into your brain... Aug 20, 2020 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Abramenko is constantly moving his story forward whether it’s through the chilling mystery or character growth. Rated: 4/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Jayne Nelson Radio Times The creepy alien effects are excellent and the performances are top-notch, if a little cold on Akinshina's part. However, the film's plot twists don't roll out with quite as much of a bang as they should, largely because we've seen much of this before. Rated: 3/5 Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Josh Parham Next Best Picture Utilizing an impressive creature design along with moody cinematography and a fantastic score, what’s presented is an effectively creepy monster movie that plays right into the strengths of the genre. Paul God sci-fi movie without a lot long image gore. Great use of “mood” music. Really accurate depiction of USSR of the time. (I was there). I liked the overlay story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/20 Full Review lord b Nothing happens and they seem to have reused the alien from prometheus. Painfully slow paced. The characters were somewhat interesting. PLOT??? lol Pathetic!!! I give such low rating because so many inflated ratings! This site is a lie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Alec B Like a lot of these kinds of thrillers the most obvious reference point is "Alien" however "Sputnik" finds some unique ways to shake up that movie's plot structure. Also, for the first time in a long while, the creature design matches the great concept. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Luis M. D The first part of the film is certainly impressive and evokes the dark and mysterious atmosphere of Ridley Scott's Alien. In the second part, the narrative becomes more conventional (and also less logical) and the film loses part of its initial impact. But in the end, the balance is quite positive. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Mario G Great plot and nice twists, no silly characters like in "life". Character development is nice and it still leaves room for the creature and some pretty cool sequences with it. I loved that the monster is very strong but not ridiculously op. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Brendan F I don't know, maybe I've seen it all before. It was good don't get me wrong, but for that specific genre it didn't really keep me fully captivated. Still worth the watch if you are into sci fi / horror Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
