Audience Member You get the point early on, and the lack of dialogue or conventional plot structure may test most audiences' patience, but if you're open to it, St. Nick is an absorbing and beautifully made picture in the same tradition as Yasujiro Ozu, Terrence Malick and Gus van Sant's more ambitious works. This is a sad look at street kids surviving day by day, having to grow up way too soon. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Perplexing movie and description.Except for a brief walk a cross a field at the start, the first hour of the movie takes place in and around an abandoned house, apparently in warmer months (kids in park, crickets at night). There is no sign of a "bitter Texas winter" The kids remain quite clean: white shirt is never dirty, hair is never greasy, despite no running water and being surrounded by dirt. Perhaps there was an artistic message here? I missed it. If I was into varying camera angles, lighting, etc. I might have found this interesting, but as a story? Only slightly intriguing and not satisfying. At over an hour in, some drama/tension finally occurs. Disappointing to take so long to get to some more interesting dynamics. Even then, characters reactions are not believable, and the story ends soon after. The end. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
