Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com A promising horror feature that never quite rises up to its potential. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Oct 4, 2020 Full Review Drew Tinnin Dread Central With the producer of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake on board to help shepherd Lee Cummings' vision and two horror vets like Scout and Tiffany Shepis involved, it's not surprising that Star Light is such an effective little thriller. Rated: 3.0 Aug 14, 2020 Full Review Joey Magidson Hollywood News "Star Light" arguably shouldn't work, but the throwback vibe to B-movie genre fare ultimately does. Rated: 3/4 Aug 11, 2020 Full Review Carey-Ann Pawsey Orca Sound Totally will bring you back to the B style horror films of the 70s and 80s complete with bad acting, cheesy dialogue and tons of blood. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 8, 2020 Full Review Peter Sobczynski eFilmCritic.com Despite having a premise as overtly odd as the one displayed here, the film tries to play things relatively straight, which only further drags down the proceedings. Aug 7, 2020 Full Review Rob Rector Film Threat Star Light depends on the number of teens-in-peril horror films a viewer has consumed. Still, there are certainly far inferior options cluttering the on-demand catalog, and it can be appreciated for the care of the craft placed within. Brad P They say never meet your heroes, but what about your favorite pop star played by genre princess Scout Taylor-Compton? Some lives and maybe even some galaxies should never collide. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is a bit of a mess. The dialogue seems to be cobbled together, with some sections missing or left without any real context. The editing similarly includes transitions that don't make sense. The acting is fair, as the cast appears to be invested in the plot, but in the end the story has no cohesive internal logic. Both Scout Taylor-Compton and Tiffany Shepis are somewhat wasted in this film, with the former relegated to mostly concerned expressions, and she spends most of the film stashed away in an upstairs bedroom, while the latter appears in only a couple of scenes at the beginning and end. The menacing "henchman", who could pass as a Steven Tyler look-alike, serves as a weak sauce familiar for the star/villain, while providing no real menace at all. There is also an entity in the trunk of a car...seen only briefly...that is never involved in any real way, but supposedly spawned the pop star at the heart of the plot. One plot point never explained is the blood dripping ear wounds on the characters that turn demonic. We are able to know friend from foe by this, but we never understand how it happens, or why. There is a very G-rated "sex scene" with both participants fully clothed, but which seems to result in the pop star becoming pregnant...or something. The gore is minimal and pedestrian. All in all, a milquetoast entry in the teen horror genre. Easily ignored. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
