Star Trek: First Contact is The Next Generation’s first solo film flight, and they handle the voyage pretty well. The Borg, after all, are terrifying villains, which makes for some suspenseful moments on the ship. The parts on the planet below, however, aren’t as compelling, and the attempts to bring comic relief to the story don’t always work. The practical and visual effects hold up surprisingly well, though, and I did find myself wondering how the crew would get out of the situation they were in. I guess you could say that my initial encounter with Star Trek: First Contact was satisfactory.

Absolutely my favorite Star Trek movie. It takes on the position of being the first Star Trek movie with the Next Generation crew solving their own conflict as they take on the Borg, the arch nemesis from the TV Series. Of course, this movie escapes a lot of the heavy weight of heavy-handed philosophy and speaks to one of the more revered themes... Revenge, and where that road could lead us. Loyalty and friendship can save the day, the greatest day in our history... our future.

While it doesn't quite reach the levels of Wrath of Khan, this by far the best of The Next Generation crews films. As Patrick Stewart chews scenery with a plomb and we as an audience love it. A fantastic space adventure which touches upon survivor syndrome and it's effects after Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard was taken hostage and converted into the very enemy he was fighting in the original next gen series. Yet at the same time touches on themes from Moby Dick of revenge driving you to edge of madness - this one's no subtle. Like The Dark Knight this film works as a film in it's own right. Must watch for Star Trek fans.
