David Bianculli NPR It's enjoyable enough and fits nicely into the "Star Trek" canon. And Michelle Yeoh... never fails to entertain. Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Angelica Jade Bastién New York Magazine/Vulture It is sloppy, misguided, and frankly rote, overstuffed with concepts that it only superficially explores. Feb 7, 2025 Full Review J. Bryan Lowder Slate While it’s now unavoidably and unfortunately canon, let’s hope Section 31 was just a stumble on the way to better and bolder things. If this is what the Federation’s underbelly really looks like, I’d rather it stayed in the dark. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson ill LYTeracy (Substack) As pretty as the visuals are, the rest of it's fairly thin, but the fact that it's all about Michelle Yeoh makes it work. Mar 18, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Its failings are particularly frustrating given the potential of having Georgiou — an interesting, complex character portrayed by the wonderful Yeoh — star in her own series. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Nicola Austin We Have a Hulk While Section 31 does give viewers a little more insight into the Terran Empire and their ruthless customs, the narrative oddly pivots from a strong start...to a more generic outfit unfortunately missing all the hallmark Star Trek elements. Brendan U Personally I am a long term star Trekie fan. I'd like for them to make the newer shows have a more form of depth. Although fun and enjoyable... still somehow just shy of that "WOAH THIS IS SO A 10/5 MOVIE" kinda as the older generation around or sometime before my generation! Yes the new flashy 'CGI' and New Effects are really cool, yet it is the storyline, The Plot and how effectively you resolve the plotline or are willing to carry the Story to create that iconic "Passing the torch for the next generation" of The Federation! Every movie or show casted to fill up Trek Gaps in LORE or add a need level of "dimension"... like, make a circle a sphere! (Metaphorical speaking!) So Did the mysteriousness of this one capture a form of Classic ST? Yes. Would I watch this again? Why not! It still is Trek! Was the cast a great bunch for the Crew? Definitely! I hope someone at Paramount rewatches all the older stuff and finds some new inspiration to capture to cultivate a way to see how in the older stuff they "brought the show to 'life'"... for it is not as if Star Trek Lore cannot be grown, show a new one of some new movie openly like 'Where did the borg come from?' movie or even shows to display the refinements of star fleets growth in a show... even the crew in a show going to a earth museum! Or what about the Romulans? So there still is much potential for Star Trek, as long as someone is able to embark on the journeys with embracing the "classic spirit" of the show! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Mark C Unwatchable garbage and an affront to all things Star Trek. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review David B I haven't seen more headache inducing editing since watching Natural Born Killers. Isn't Star Trek supposed to be chill? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review J. B Nice and entertaining movie. If you can look past the old section 31 members of ds9. Good plot built and some humor and drama. They can make more like this Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/31/25 Full Review Seton W Absolutely dire. You’d have to be absolutely desperate and bored to watch all the way through. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Alan G This has to be the worst Star Trek movie ever. The writing was on the level of a 12 year old writing fan fiction. Unfortunately the acting wasn't much better. I've been to school plays that featured more depth and reality. Petty sad production from such a storied franchise.
