David Bianculli NPR It's enjoyable enough and fits nicely into the "Star Trek" canon. And Michelle Yeoh... never fails to entertain. Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Angelica Jade Bastién New York Magazine/Vulture It is sloppy, misguided, and frankly rote, overstuffed with concepts that it only superficially explores. Feb 7, 2025 Full Review J. Bryan Lowder Slate While it’s now unavoidably and unfortunately canon, let’s hope Section 31 was just a stumble on the way to better and bolder things. If this is what the Federation’s underbelly really looks like, I’d rather it stayed in the dark. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Its failings are particularly frustrating given the potential of having Georgiou — an interesting, complex character portrayed by the wonderful Yeoh — star in her own series. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Nicola Austin We Have a Hulk While Section 31 does give viewers a little more insight into the Terran Empire and their ruthless customs, the narrative oddly pivots from a strong start...to a more generic outfit unfortunately missing all the hallmark Star Trek elements. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Joshua Polanski In Review Online Those who come to Star Trek: Section 31 with nothing but fond memories and fuzzy feel-goodery in their hearts for Star Trek: Discovery will find little to redeem this Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou spin-off. brandon b While they keep it light hearted and and try to keep action going, a couple of characters just suck. The mech dude was terrible and until it she embraced the chaos, the lt cmdr was sucking. Story was so-so. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Angela P FPS game meets The Orville only not funny. Plot is terrible and characters are two dimensional. It was a confused mess of genre with terrific actors playing sub standard roles. Waste of money and effort. Do yourself a favor and don't watch... will win the wooden spoon awards. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Jay M It feels drawn out and just not like a typical star trek movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Craig B Heading into this, I took on board several audience reviews (mostly negative... not many positive ones😜!) and approached this film as a SciFi flick with a VERY thin link to the Star Trek universe. Going in with this mindset, I actually enjoyed the movie. Plenty of action and good visual effects made up for some pretty ordinary characters (apart from Georgiou)... they really needed an extra couple of familiar faces. To me, this was NOT a Star Trek movie... in the spirit of past ST films, anyway. I've been watching Star Trek in all its many forms, from the Original series, through to the more recent series such as Picard, plus the many movies in between, over nearly 50 years. I really don't think it is as bad as what the reviews suggest... ultimately, every viewer needs to watch this and make up their own mind. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Sergio S Terrible, tristísimo, una gran oportunidad perdida Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review charles p Whatever this is, it’s not Star Trek.
