David Bianculli NPR It's enjoyable enough and fits nicely into the "Star Trek" canon. And Michelle Yeoh... never fails to entertain. Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Angelica Jade Bastién New York Magazine/Vulture It is sloppy, misguided, and frankly rote, overstuffed with concepts that it only superficially explores. Feb 7, 2025 Full Review J. Bryan Lowder Slate While it’s now unavoidably and unfortunately canon, let’s hope Section 31 was just a stumble on the way to better and bolder things. If this is what the Federation’s underbelly really looks like, I’d rather it stayed in the dark. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson ill LYTeracy (Substack) As pretty as the visuals are, the rest of it's fairly thin, but the fact that it's all about Michelle Yeoh makes it work. Mar 18, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Its failings are particularly frustrating given the potential of having Georgiou — an interesting, complex character portrayed by the wonderful Yeoh — star in her own series. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Nicola Austin We Have a Hulk While Section 31 does give viewers a little more insight into the Terran Empire and their ruthless customs, the narrative oddly pivots from a strong start...to a more generic outfit unfortunately missing all the hallmark Star Trek elements. Sam F TOTALLY agree with Red Letter Media....this has got to be the worst thing ever made and when are Paramount going to ditch Alex Kurtzman....This is NOT Star Trek .... no story no likeable characters...no hopeful positive storyline or under tone. Instead we get 5 million special effects which aren't needed and NO story !!! Come on guys simply DO BETTER AND GO BACK TO WHAT STAR TREK GREAT !!!.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/25 Full Review Favian G Like many of the Star Trek series that I have had the privilege of reviewing star trek's section 31. Like many others has had its rough start. Some things I like to see change. Sometimes I like to see corrected. What overall it was not terrible at all.It was actually quite good fight.Scenes were solid and action was suspensefull, concidering all things it did quite well, i'm hopeful and anxious to see more episodes of star trek section thirty one, just one criticism the alien did drove the android body two really!?. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Benjamin G As a life long trekkie, I REALLY wanted to like this. I remember when the project was announced as a series: I was VERY excited. But Paramount let me and us all down. The exposition dump at the beginning was awful. Looked like something a youtuber making a drama exposing video would do. Section31 has a fairly well defined lore from previous series (namely DS9) and to completely change it for some campy, cheesy, tired, trope filled made for TV movie was excruciating to watch. Star Trek will hopefully live well past this "era" of ridiculousness. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/25 Full Review Lars J It's the first time since years I wasn't able to finish a movie, and it's the first time I didn't finish something Star Trek related. Star Trek 5 is a master piece compared to Section 31. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Kipper01 T Section 31 is the worst Star Trek ever. Make it go away, please.
