Rated: 2/5 Sep 6, 2006 Full Review Empire Magazine Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2006 Full Review Joshua Starnes ComingSoon.net It is both straightforward and abstract, using cinematic tricks to put the audience in Sam/Henry's headspace. The result is a bit a sense of intentional vertigo that may cloud the films ultimately humanist point. Peter N Don’t waste your time watching this movie.. The arty farty types will find a way to like the movie and tell you it is a work of art but it definitely is not.. 1 hr and 39 mins of my life wasted.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Red in D I was initially interested, and was enjoying the acting; but about 15 or 20 minutes in, I realized more and more that nothing was going to make sense. I continued watching, because it WAS hard to take my eyes away, thinking that eventually, the movie would provide an ending which explained everything. For ME, the ending didn't provide much in the way of an explanation of everything. For a while, I thought that Henry and Sam were actually the same person, and BOTH were losing their mind. The ending, for instance, didn't explain why Henry thought Bob Hoskins was his father; or why Bob Hoskins regained his sight; or why Sam had met and talked to Henry's dead mother; why Sam was bitten by Henry's dog who had died when Henry was 12!!!! In any case, for me the movie was just a well-acted confusing mess. When I watch a movie, I WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED. I do NOT want to have to work out what is happening. I have enough of that in my OWN life .... I just want some well-written, well-acted ESCAPISM. This movie definitely wasn't that. I gave it 1 star because even though it made no sense, it DID keep me watching, though frustrated, especially after the ending explained almost nothing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Griffith J A cerebral trip that’s more a feeling than a story. Shot in a unique & striking way with wild editing & incredible scene transitions. It all fuels the psychological noir tone in a great way. Yet it thinks it’s very deep but lacks a good narrative. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Bub F The critics obviously didn’t understand the film, which is embarrassing for them, but quite hilarious. It’s a really great movie though and is hugely rewarding on a second viewing where the twist ending will suddenly make complete sense all along. Highly enjoyable and well acted and will tug at your heart if you aren’t soulless. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
